Pondicherry Restaurant Find--Come 'N Joy

While I've been diligently taking notes on all of the hotels we've stayed in (will post upon return home), I feel compelled to recommend a most excellent hole in the floor restaurant here in Pondicherry. It's called Come 'n Joy and it sits beneath the Hotel Kaarthik at 20 Rangapillai St, just a few doors W of the canal. While this place is basically an ice cream parlor, they have a fantastic 50 Rupee veg buffet lunch (served 12-3), consisting of spicy S Indian dishes which they vary daily. There are roughly 10 choices, along with chapatis, papadam, dessert sweets and even
brown rice; and they also have free purified water. While it isn't the very best food we've had, it's certainly the best value.

There is a good restaurant next to the Visitor's Center where you can get a good meal for Rs 35. They also have snacks and baked goods. The Upahar Restaurant is a good place

We saw a decent enuff beach just N of town, near the turnoff for Auroville. I believe it is called Sandy Beach...plenty of sand along with plenty of cows.

I strongly recommend the Hotel Corbelli. Check out their reviews on Trip Advisor. Absolute steal at 999/night double; soon as they hit LP those rates will be history. Can't vouch for their restaurant, as I didn't try it, but plenty of good eating in the neighborhood, including the subject restaurant.
