parboiled rice... is it good for everything?
As far as cooking Indian food is parboiled rice ok for any dish that calls for rice? For instance, can I use it to make biryiani? Or rice pudding?
I have a 20 lb box of it now and I have to think seriously about what to use it for. ![]() Also, I got the long grain white parboiled because that's all there was at the store. Did I make a mistake? ![]() |

Mystery! Doesn't parboiled mean already partly cooked? That's what a parboiled potato is in UK.
So is this rice part-cooked, or what? It doesn't look like it.

Frankly, I'm not really a fan of parboiled rice, on my over 15+ visits to Kerala (Sabarimalai), we used to ask for 'Andhra' meals, the only difference being regular rice. Not really sure about the Biryani, I recollect eating some at Ernakulam Jn or was it Cochin, restaurant which did look like boiled rice biryani, with a touch of coconut oil. And me, I come from a town where Biryani is discussed with about the same enthusiasm/gusto/tone as some of the threads on here. ![]() |

The par- boiled rice is good for idlis, and to consumer with gravies and curries.
It can't be used for Biriyani. The par-boiled rice, is good with the Malabar fish curry. If you are not used to eating Par-boiled rice, it can give you a bad stomach. |

There is single parboiled and double parboiled .
Single parboiled is much better .Availability is restricted . We do our own parboiling for our use here . |
