I was in the Hotel MountView gift shop and met a couple who invited me over to their place for dinner. I think I had a few Aloo Parathas too .... my fav! Everybody is so darn friendly there ... just bring a megaphone and announce that you are overdo for some gourmet parathas - please solicit invitiations PDQ!

Ludhiana OK for parathas

You may want to head to Ludhiana for this chaps Paranthas ... if you can't find any in the Capitol!

His ‘paranthas’ still delight students

Ludhiana, September 12
Many students of Punjab Agricultural University of 60’s and 70’s and now professors in the university are always thankful to Ujjagar Singh. His small ‘dhabha’ outside Gate No. 3 of the university had helped them survive the long years of their student life. The wholesome and reasonably priced ‘aloo paranthas’ supplied by Ujjagar Singh for 35 paise in 1960 were their lifeline. Homesick students just lapped up the delicious cups of tea and hogged ‘paranthas’ by dozens.

You didn't say what part of Chandigarh you will be staying?

The main bus stand has a good restaurant that does cheap parathas for breakfast. I liked eating there.

However, if you are staying for a while, I am sure your local restaurant will be more than happy to cook a special order for you each morning.

Tim in England, wishing he could get Aloo parathas + pickle for breakfast here!!

I think TIM and I have have developed a similar taste for the paranthas at the bus stand dhaba. The dhaba remains open 24x7 and serves delicious Aaloo and Paneer paranthas (both tandoori and tawa). We, at Dell after being used to working at night hours often visit this bus stand dhaba on weekends after late night movies.

However, you will find good paranthas almost anywhere else. If you want to try out Tawa paranthas, try Katani Dhaba in Mohali, we often order from there. A parantha costs just 8 bucks and I bet you can't eat two till the last bite. really yummy and heavy. rest, when you get here - call me, I will guide you to a few places around.

you know zzehar, for eight months i was working for quark, just accross the road. bad luck i didn't know that a indiamiker is a handshake away.

but i hate katani parathas. there is a shop in sector 35 which opens as early as 6:30 in morning and serves good paraths and dahi.

anyway i think chandigarh is very dull for foodies. only punjabi, everywhere.

yeah quark has a very nice swimming pool visible from my cubicle. never saw u swimming there though ;-)

I hope you didn't have to eat katani paranthas daily (like most people do)...I myself would hate that, but then, It's still the most popular place around for tawa paranthas.
I myself being from Amritsar think that every other place is dull for foodies. though I don't go out much, but that's pretty much all you have in Mohali.

where are you now?

Is there any place in Chandigarh where they serve malai , because in my opinion malai is something you can get only at your home(by boiling milk and taking it off the top).......... I would be veryyyy happy if I can get malai somewhere to eat with paranthas and/or other food items. I am in love with malai....any place where I can get some?

Is there anyother place you would recommend for paranthas in Chandigarh? What other breakfast specialities does chandigarh have, like one I know is poori/aloo breakfast.

thanks for your reply!
