Nice wine
Just tasted nice red wine shiraz by Sante, they do a Merlot and white wine also and at only 220 rupees, I have had wines that cost up to 800 pupees that tasted like vinegar and have been thrown down the sink, you can get this wine from the shop next to the electrical shop/hardware shop Candolim behind post office off main Sinquerim to baga road it has a nice peppery taste and is defo not a port wine type its 12% volume just right and for the price about the same as a 2.99 Asda or Tesco special.

Where to Buy Good Wine
I'll be visiting Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, Bhopal Hyderabad, Cochin and the temple circuit in Tamil Nadu in December/January. My wife, who went on a "diversity in the Arts" jolly to India four years ago said that at a reception in Munbai they served excellent Indian made wine. Can anyone help by telling me either the names of good and reliable Indian wines or the location of retail outlets where an old hippy can buy acceptable wine in any of the cities i am visiting.

Nice wine
Yes Sante is Indian made by Grover of Bangalore, you can now get this in the new Newtons supermarket in Candolim as well as some new world wines and more Indian decent looking wines, as wine becomes more popular there will be more choice and prices should get more competitive

I liked Chantilly, had it at Ideal River View Resort, in Thanjavur. They have a bar open in the evenings.

In Delhi go to Khan Market and adjoining this market is a shop that stocks a wide range of wines both Indian & imported.
Try the brand Sula. |

I like Chantilly too. The white is better than the red, but both are ok. Haven't found it in Hyderabad. In Delhi, seems to be easily available, at least where I usually am. I second Jyoti's Sula, but its more expensive. |

Hmm
Sula is considered one of the best Indian ones. The other is Chantilly (hope i got the spelling right) and if you can, try getting a brand called "Sutter House". These wines are made in Himachal and are pretty new to the market but very good.

Himachal is the only state where these fruit wines are sold at juice bars all along the highway and towns. Sutter House products seem to be quite popular. I personally haven't tried these altho I use their apple cider for cooking.

Well you can make a very nice gravy for roast pork using cider. You can also use it for casserole stews.

Large areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka are now being converted to vineyards, the wine market is booming. Lot of visitors visit the wineries during crushing season.
