MEKHANIA LASSI
MEKHANIA LASSI
Did you try the mekhania lassi in Jodhpur?
It's a kind of saffron lassi, the best lassi I had in India, absolutely fabulous.
They serve it in "Agra sweet home" a small inconspicuous place opposite the Sojati gate. I always had two when I went there.

Lassi
Had the Mekhania Lassi at both of the above places. Would rate as the taste treat sensation of all India.
That is literally the best lassi I've ever had in my life. I seriously think about it all the time and it's been over a year now. I'm tempted to go back to Jodhpur for it. Didn't really enjoy the city but would go back just for that. The thing I can't get over are the little butter granules on top. I'm trying to figure out how to make it and I don't even know what that was! I saw in the other thread someone called it chach but I'm confused after doing more research into it. If anyone has a recipe or knows how to make those little butter granules do let me know! I'm desperate!
Haha, I sound like an addict!

Your chach (chhaas, chaach, chhach, etc.) is most likely chaas, which is a sort of buttermilk. It could be said to be vaguely similar to lassi, but isn't the same.
Any butter granules I know nothing about, so no comments from me there.
I thought makhania lassi is mostly noted for its saffron flavoring? See also here for some more btw, including mention of your granules (what are those?): Makhania Lassi.
A web search on the latter spelling (and likely on variations on it) will lead you to recipes.

I tried it in Pushkar - think I could get addicted to it..
I like simple plain kesar lassi too, wish it was available more readily since it's not exactly hard to make.

Q: Ke garne?
A: Dal bhat khanne, maaya garne, sutne!

In standard Hindi chhaachh and maTThaa are synonyms for "Buttermilk". The other variants would have some regional validity. Some granules of butter get left behind in the buttermilk after the butter has been strained out.

I had it in Jodhpur at Shrimishralal Hotel just by the clocktower gate. Absolutely amazing taste.
I will be heading back in three months, this time with wife and daughter and I'm looking forward to their reaction when they try this Lassi.
