Legend of Chicken 65 !
Someone tell me, how did the dish get 65 in its name.
Was it the 65th item on a menu card, or is it made of 65 spices in its masala.
Those who know the true reasons, pls tell me, or, are there more stories to this one.

I havn't even got over the Biryani thread yet.
This IS pure torture!
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, its time to pause and reflect. - Mark Twain
There is a story behind Chicken 65, here it is for you all -
Till that time only the Desi variety of Chicken was available in the markets which used to take months to grow (the red indian hen) and then The Broiler chicken was introduced which used to take approx 65 days to get to its full weight and ready to be culled.
The chicken preparation made from the Broiler variety when introduced in restaurants was named Chicken 65 for this reason.
(Nowadays the Broiler chicken takes only 45 days to grow to its full weight)

U are all wrong about Chicken 65
Here is the real scoop on Chicken 65. This is well researched, by the way.
The Chicken Authority Board of India (HQ in New Delhi) originally wanted it to call it Chicken 69. But you know that 69 has all kinds of other meanings (see previous response on Kama Sutra). So when they decided that 69 might cause a sexual revolution in India (God forbid that the population should increase) the board decided on a less mundane name and number: Chicken 65.
Now tell me, isn't 65 such a boring number??? It is that simple. 65 is so boring; think about naming a dish by that number. They felt this will put people right to sleep and thereby not have chicken contribute towards the population explosion. But what those esteemmed career politicians didn't figure out (as usual by the way) is that Chicken 65 tastes great. And any great dish leads to you know what.
So Chicken 65 was a conspirecy gone bad! Save the breast for me....

Life is what happens to you while you are making other plans.
What about bay leaves ? Aren't they used ? I distinctly remember eating Chicken 65 with a generous sprinkling of bay leaves, which lent their strong aroma to the dish. I also thought the strong flavour spoilt the taste !

It's Curry Leaves. Atleast in the south. Also it's a lot drier the the picture posted by beach, but I'm sure just like any other dish in India, the recipe would be different from sate to state, district to district, mandal to mandal, town/village to town/village and home to home. Oops, from person to person too!
