Is Olive oil easily available in India?
How easy is it to buy good olive oil in northern India (Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh areas).
Are there any good brands to look out for and what type of prices can you expect to pay for say 250ml of Olive oil? Thanks in advance. |

You mean Bertolli's, Paleface? (I find out now, just in typing this, that they are of course owned by Unilever btw. Grumph, there goes another favorite brand
)*(I think there's another famous one in a green tin though -- obvious color to use anyway, isn't it --, can't put my finger on it right now either.) * Hm, I find now they sold on the olive oil, but not a lot of Bertolli's other products, again. Hey, I'm not so picky with it -- but Unilever isn't exactly cool, no. (And I find now they've had some controversial dealings in India in particular, too.) I guess a conscientious consumer might want to be aware of this.

'Tis a fine (range of) oil(s) yes (as well as some other stuff they produce -- vinegar among them), that's for sure.

If it is, why do my friends always insist I lug a couple of gallons with me every time I go?

Thanks guys.
Is AusE the expert in Olive oil? Where can I pick some up from in Delhi? abracax, Its probably cheaper to buy overseas. I know in England I can get big catering cans (5 litres) of decent quality Olive oil for £15. |

Several brands of olive oil are available in supermarkets like Big Bazaar, Spencers, Reliance Fresh and others. These chains have branches all over India.
Machadinha mentioned vinegar. We recently discovered an unknown but old [since 1885] brand E F Kolah & Sons vinegar from Navsari, Gujarat, available in Parsi shops in Mumbai [probably elsewhere too]. This vinegar can give any 'di Modena' vinegar a good run for its money. It is available in sachets at a ridiculously cheap price of I forget, but definitely less than Rs50.
