My husband and I rarely buy ready-made spice mixes. We usually have all the individual ingredients to make it fresh when needed. However, our relatives in India make big vacuum-sealed packets of homemade rasam powder, sambar powder and sometimes maa ladoo powder for us. One packet lasts a long time. I guess we are lucky that way.

My wife prefers the Penzey's spices to what the local Gujratis sell at the Indian store.
FabIndia is now also selling spices (and mixes) in their stores but not available for mail-order yet. |

QUOTE=wonderwomanusa;372344]Right in San Francisco -- I mostly go to Bombay Bazaar on Valencia between 16th & 17th Streets for spices. I used to buy basmati there, but discovered those big bags at Costco recently![/quote]
Got to be real Dehra Dun or at least UP basmati or no go lol Texamati is good but not as good . . . In my opinion, when Dehra Dun was made a part of Uttaranchal, the Indian govt reassigned the rice capital of the world. Now the Bordeaux of rice is in Uttaranchal. ![]() |

Best is to contact them directly, I can't help more. BTW, they are looking for a new principal though! The current "acting" is leaving in a year or so. Interested, GAUBoy? But no night life. There's one good pub-cum-restaurant in town, a few other good eating places, that's about it. Movies u have to go to Dehradun for. |
