Mughal Kitchens - Delhi ??
Kaushiks,
Thanks for the biriyani joint details in Delhi.
I brother went to Delhi recently, and told me that he went in search of the restaurant where Mughal cooks ( descendants of the cooks who made food for the Moghul royals ) have a restaurant.
It seems they make the best biriyani, kababs et all.
If u know its name, address, pls put that here.

In Hyderabad:
Paradise ofcourse.
Few of the others (random):
Garden Restaurant (close to Paradise)
Niagara
Azizia
Madina (near Charminar - the original)
The Nizam Club (in my opinion the 'real deal'), if you can find/persuade a member to take you there.
Banjara Darbar
Narmada (a personal favorite)
Many more, only I don't want to go completely crazy right now. Besides I've got too much drool on the key board!
LATER:
Also try the 'Andhra' Biryani or 'Pulau' at one of the Andhra thali restaurants, Abhiruchi, Indu and many more that have opened up in the last couple of years. Yes Hyderabadi Biryani is different from the Andhra one. The Andhra one speaks with a green chilli accent!

Thanks for the Hyderabad references..
Chicago Biryani
The best biryani, apart from my own
) would be Gareeb Nawaz on Devon Avenue in Chicago. $4 for lamb and $3 for chicken and lots of it. The best biryani is of course Muslim style biryani.
Biryani is still the food of choice in non-veg weddings in India. Growing up we had a man by the name of Kaluk, who cooked for all our weddings. Man my mouth waters even as I think of him. He would cook it in huge pots over firewood; still the best way to cook it authentically. My fingers can still feel the soreness as we cane together to peel and dice enourmous amounts of garlic and onions. I remember the "debates" as to the proportion of meat to rice; with 50/50 always winning out in the end. (As you well know lamb is expensive in India). And I can still smell the wonderful aroma of biryani cooking in the backyard. And he had a wonderful style of dishing up the plates with the right amount of rice and meat.
Sorry getting nostalgic here but thought some non-Indians would love the inside scoop of a certain kind wedding. Ode to Biryani!

A must have after Biryani, Khubani-Ka-Meetha and Paan. A great Hyderabadi tradition
Khubani-Ka-Meetha.
