Hmmmm.....Pani Puri....have it everyday at 3pm whenever possible..mostly same place, restaurant in Malad.

Have avoided street wallahs since last visit when all four of us family members became sick !!

Last week Times of India published a reader's list of the Top Ten pani puri wallahs in Mumbai.

Enjoy the PP phase you are going thru right now....next year may be BP (Bhel Puri) phase..

I wonder what is the worst that can happen to go thru PP binge as you are doing now? I suppose you might put on some extra pounds in 2 / 3 months.....

You can buy a packet of ready made Puris in US and in Canada...most Indian stores now keep them, 50 puris per package
and masala for Pani also comes in a packet in US Indian stores...just add water to the powder and Pani is ready, enjoy.

32? pooh, rookie

I generally use pani puri to round off my evening at a chaat place. You'll have to defeat me before you even think about claiming "Pani Puri Champ" title as your own.

Now the champ is getting Flustered after reading the comments of Barodian, panipuri and Aggienm. I need to confess that I have not eaten more than 10 Pani Puri's at a stretch. But, I always thought that I can eat a Lot more.

Barodian, 70 at a stretch ? That is a lot. Here, it costs 1 RS for one Puri. I would like to know the Place which charges Rs 18 for 54 puri's.

Aggienm, Person who eats 32 is a rookie ? it's ok, I can rise to the occasion and Eat more puri's than Barodian and Yourself. I do reserve( as a face saving measure) the right to withdraw at the last Minute if you People eat more than 100 Puris.

Till then,

Best wishes,

The places I have ate are in Baroda, Anand and Nadiad which are in Gujarat. They charged 1 Rupee for 3 puri's. The cities are in Gujarat. The price I know stood back in '04, not sure know. But I will find out in about 6 months when I do come back to India :-)

I have good appetite for food. Though I am trying to cut down on it since I don't get to exercise a lot. My whole family knows that I love pani puri and the food of the stalls (lari).

Here in Hyderabad, it's 2 for 1 rupee. But I DO count and they don't always give the right amount. My favorite place (It's CLEAN! He covers the water when not using it, covers the channa, etc. He WASHES the plates, everything. He uses DRINKING WATER to make the pani or so he claims..

Well, he generally gives 7 or 8 for 5 rupees but he is clean and the water is exceptional.

A few weeks ago, I was in an area I didn't know.. and couldn't find a pani puri stand. Finally I found one.. about 30 people were standing in line to eat there. I thought.. wow, this must be some good pani puri! So I waited like 20 minutes. He gave 7 for 10 rupees and it was super spicy (not that I mind) I can't understand why so many people were waiting to eat there? That guy must be racking in the money. His fingers were all wrinkly from dipping the puris. It made me loose my appetite.

I won't claim to be the pani puri eating champ, because I really feel full after 30 puris. Mostly I eat 20 and then have samosa or cutlet.

Actually I have not eaten pani puri for two days. I probably won't eat it today, either.

Do you like the ones they serve at Dadu's? Supposedly made from mineral water (wonder if extra minerals are added in that water , maybe they mean the rocksalt mineral )...too bloody expensive, for once it makes me happy for not being a Pani Puri addict as you claim yourself to be. But yes, an occassional bite is always welcome... and all ends well that ends with a Jalebi , for me !!

I'm addicted too. Thankfully, I can get it just down the street at our local Indian grocery store. Whew!

I really don't like Indian fast food places. But I did eat a pizza and some pani puri at Dadu's, probably 9 months ago. 20 rupees and you get what, 5 or 6? Major ripoff. And it just isn't the same. Actually now that I think of it, I think that was at Karachi Bakery. Ah well..

Jalebi is nice. There is a vendor just down the street from my house and I'll sometimes buy some. I love gulab jamun but am lucky that I don't crave sweets. My MIL won't eat the orange Jalebi because of the artificial coloring. But the yellow ones are also colored, na? I dunno.
