Grocery/Supermarket Stores in Cochin

I am new to this forum but have been reading a lot of posts found on Google in my searching, which is how I came to register here! Looks like there is a lot of good energy and good information from fellow travelers to be found on this site. I found some old posts on Google about American style or gourmet type grocery stores or supermarkets in Cochin but am having difficluty finding the addresses even from our apartment manager here in Cochin LOL. I found recommendations for Ashish Supermarket, Nilgiris, Mithra Mega-Mart, and Varkey's on MG Road online but do not know how to tell a driver where exactly to take me. I have been to the Varkey's in Panampilly Nagar, I think it was, but not the one on M.G.Road,which sounds bigger. Anyone out there have some suggestions and specific directions? We have been in India for 3 weeks now and will be here another month. We absolutely LOVE the food here in general, but it would be nice to have a few things in our apartment that we like at home, like good cheese, especially, and maybe even wine? I guess the wine request may be asking too much here in Cochin with the restrictions on purchasing alcohol. But I would greatly appreciate some guidance on finding a great market here!
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

cONFUSSSSSSSSSION?

You can say to driver...

IF HE DRIVE THROUGH MG ROAD.. YOU CAN SAY... MG ROAD LAST END.. THERE IS FAMOUS ALAPPAT HERITAGE ON SAME SIDE.. OR PARAKKAT JEWELLERS.. ANY WAY EVERY ONE KNOWS ALAPPAT HERITAGE,. IF HE DRIVE FROM SOUTH SIDE MG ROAD.. THERE IS MANY ALAPPATS. JUST AFTER "PADMA"=> AHEAD 300 METERS

IF HE COME FROM MENAKA.. MEANS MARINE LINES.. JUST TELL HIM TO TURN FROM FEDERAL BANK JUNCTION/ MADHAV PHARMACY JUNCTION AND TURN RIGHT... TO MG ROAD.. AGAIN 300-400 METER FROM THERE.. SHORTLY IT IS END OF MG ROAD...
I am from Cochin.. have nice days..
SIVAN

Hi Sivan...no phone for me here in India that is not really expensive...my husband got an Indian SIM card for his phone but I am relying on the internet for communication for the most part. Appreciate you taking the time to give me directions to the store. I found Nigliris and got our groceries yesterday...my driver know just where it was :-) Nice to have a few things we like to have on hand at home. It is alwasy a pleasure to travel and then it also so nice to go home :-)
You have alwsy lived her Sivan? Nice place to be from...I think it seems like one of the loveliest and safer parts of the country to live. We have met many wonderful warm friendly people here in Kerala.
Take Care and have a nice weekend

Hey kksivan... I'm not sure pmvelu was being argumentative, but I guess your post does raise a few red flags to people who read lots of forums like these. I'm not saying you may not be genuine in your intentions, but it's a bit creepy to approach someone asking for them to call you to help you with your english. there are lots of weird people trolling around on forums trying to get to know people with this kind of approach. You might be the nicest person... don't get me wrong. But how could we know??

Sivan, take no notice .There is nothing wrong in trying to improve your command of the english language.
I often spent time with Indian ladies and gentlemen when I was in Kerala. They were trying to learn english. It was a pleasure to speak with them!We ended up laughing most of the time but it was good fun!

Good luck and I hope you find some travellers who will spend some time with you.
Peace.
