Goan food fest in Delhi
A Goan food fest is being held at Ashok Hotel. The timing is from 7:30 PM to midnight. The buffet costs Rs.500/- per head. Stuffed squids are good stuff. You can also order a la carte. No Fenny but!

No Xacuti, they should be ashamed (of course it is best made with BEEF maybe that's the problem)

The only people who drink it are hard core alcoholics in South Goa. It is somewhat of a poor man's drink. ![]() |

I used to enjoy it too although the smell from this brew is so persistent that you can forget about smooching anyone for at least a day after imbibing. There are basically three types of variants of coconut feni made in South Goa which are aalen, doodhshiri and jeeren(spellings are variable because these are Konkani words) |

The guy who made this said he also made lemon, ginger (you might have mentioned that I don't know the Konkani word for ginger) lemon grass and orange feni, sounded quite interesting.
I know what you mean about the smell, the missus mentioned it My landlord also made something he called Aruvedic Feni from a sweet root, he only knew the Konkani word for it though!! Sadly the days of the feni stills may be drawing to a close my lanlord said his contact in Margao only paid 250 rupees for 35 liters of Feni (strangely he pays 350 for 35 liters raw toddy) He's stopped making it preferring to make coconut vinegar which gets a slightly better price!! It's loopy juice though, the hard core feni heads are like raving lunatics when the get up a head of steam. A guy I know who does a bottle a night (tourist) walked stright into a well not long back, luckily he bounced!! |

One thing good about feni is that you don't get the severe headache the next morning. After drinking a full bottle or thereabouts of whisky the next morning is very very miserable. ![]() |

The food fest was not up to my satisfaction. The buffet section was poorly laid out, very limited choice. We had to settle for a la carte. The stuffed squids were good. The pork vindaloo was ok but nothing to write home about. The mutton xacuti was excellent. The glasses of Kokam sherbet was terrific. The chef turned out to be a singer too. There was a small stage complete with a synthesiser & guitar. So finally joined the guy on the synthesiser & the chef & sang some oldies & in return got a glass of rum on the house.
