He can get pretty good steak in Austin with a Budweiser.

The steak part - mmmmmmm.....yes, would be nice, but.....budwiser??!! I think I can safely say that no one from Europe, Australia, or New Zealand will feel too deprived by that one.

There are other sorts of beer in the US, you know... and especially in Austin ... I'm sure there are brew pubs, with locally made beers.

Folks, the Bud was the only Amercian brew I could come up with at short notice

After reflection, Jack Daniels sounds better to me with the steak , even if not traditional.

of course...apologies. No offence meant to any fans of budweiser. My first experience of it was as a backpacker in midwest. After 2 pitchers of it at a university bar - stone cold sober (although I had been working part time as a student in a brewery back home). We ended up driving our host home as he was completely trashed.

Hmmm - Jack Daniels?

Bourbon is not my cup of tea, though most Americans swear by it. I prefer Scotch or Vodka. I wish I liked Jack - it would be cheaper!

On a brighter note - was invited to a home made meal of Dosas/Vadas and Sambar! Temporarily got rid of the blues!

If you get desperate, you can always stop by a mandir or gurdwara once a week and get some nice lunch prasad! I would think Austin would have at least one temple. Or learn to cook!
