Food Shortage

Living in Austin, TX, despite its other pluses, has become a drag due to the acute good Indian food shortage. If I had the guts, I'd open up a proper dhaba. Or even an authentic Chaat shop. The Gol Gappas here completely suck - no real bite. And no offense, but Gujurati food masquerading as North Indian doesn't cut it.

Oh for the days in Delhi, wandering into a random part of Lajpat Nagar and having all and sundry Pakoras right out of the Halwai's karhai.

Or a 'Bun Samosa'!

Finally de-lurking!

I really envy all of you who are in/ have visited India recently. Finances are such a bugger!

Do they still sell Bun Samosas there - steaming hot samosa crushed in a bun with liberal amounts of Imli Chutney smothered all over it? I tried to recreate the effect at home to no avail.

Shashank, are you in New Delhi?

But let me tell you things are no different in blore.
You have atleast some street food available, but it just does not feel good.

btw - if you're using the word "bugger", sounds like you ended up in the wrong continent! Hope you manage to resolve the food crisis soon.

You guys

Rub it in - I have no comeback. I had lousy home-made rajma, which i cooked myself.

What is the latest kabob creation there? Oh for a nice scotch with a plate of Sheek Kabobs/Shammi Kabobs
Cheers,
Rajiv

Sorry Rajiv

we are being cruel....but only because we know how you feel, but we can't feel it ourselves (sorry - I was trying to sound sympathetic but it didn't turn out right).

When in Rome, one man's meat is another man's poison. Or something like that.

He can get pretty good steak in Austin with a Budweiser.

Take that, you Delhi-ite's
