Dosa.. (Frozen)

Any one else tried this? Excellent! Can't seem to find it on the Deep Foods website yet, our local grocer was selling it at an intro price of $1.99. 4 smallish size frozen Masala Dosas come with quite authentic Chutney too.

FROZEN dosa?! Chee! How is it possible that this could be good? Sounds like it'd be a soggy sponge. Better to go without, or make your own. Perhaps you could explain what it is that made you say they tasted excellent.

Frozen Dosas? As iyou said, it's nuts. It's like asking a lazy 'boy' to get chai for you.
Making one is so easy as I figured it out, you just need an Indian grocery store nearby.
Chutney too is pretty simple. Only challenge is making good sambar which I
can seem to figure out the right way. But I'll get there one day.

My thought too Iyou. For the Amsterdammers incidentally the Eritrean enjera found at many "African" eateries is surprisingly similar (not so surprising as in times past there was apparently a lot of immigration from that area to India). You'll get cutlery with it if you insist only you'll be made to feel like a right royal fool

OK,'excellent' may be an overstatement, agreed! But for a 'frozen' Dosa it is very good. I had the same range of feelings when we saw it in the freezer at the grocer. Just to try it out we picked up a couple of boxes and popped them in the oven and they were great to our . The aloo filling and the chutney powder smeared inside were very close to the freshly made dosas in our favorite Udupi restaurant in Atlanta and also what we used to eat back home in India. It's not absolutely the same but very very close. Good enough that we went back and bought a dozen or so and put them in the freezer.

Microwave makes them soft variety and in the regular oven they turn crisp on the edges. No chemical taste at all and they are not bland either.I did not see any preservatives on the pack, other than citric acid.

BTW they do have frozen sambar too, haven't tried that yet

I've also bought Masala Rava Dosa (did not try yet) and saw Vada and Idiappam in there too....

While they may not be exactly what you get in the restaurants or make fresh at home, I found them more than good enough for a snack when you get home from work or the kids can pop them in the microwave when they get back from school.

Yes, I've tried them and yes, they are quite good. When you're getting home late from work and the family is starving (so they claim), these dosa, some defrosted rasam and quickly pulled together thayir sadam (yogurt rice) along with a salad are a lifesaver. Always keep them in the freeze and the price can't be beat!

There you go! But do not try the Rava Dosa They fall apart, get dry and generally do just about what you'd expect from a frozen dosa.

But the Mysore Masala Dosa, I'm stockin up!

Freezing is an excellent way to preserve flavor. It's the freeze-dried and canned pre-made stuff I would stay away from.
