There are several Keralan/south Indian restaurants in Vancouver. The dishes are excellent and quite different and we now prefer these to north Indian foods even though the cost is somewhat higher.
Thought I should mention my wife's favorite is Allepy Chemeen-prawns cooked in coconut gravy. My favorite is very spicy Malabar fish curry. Kingfish done in coconut milk and spices.

I just had some Avial for lunch. It was good, and I didn't find it too spicy compared to some South Indian dishes. I wasn't sure about what to do with the drumsticks, but soon figured out there was some good stuff inside the woody stalks.
I have to watch my carbs and calories so a veg curry with a couple of whole wheat chapatis is a good meal for me in India. |
