Spice Shop Udaipur
Hi
I had cooking lessons in Udaipur. There is a spice shop (can't actually remember the name of the Shop). The owner does cooking lessons in his home. Was funny to do it. You learn how to prepare all sorts of curries. Was very funny to do it. I'm in India at the moment and enjoy delicious indian dishes, yummie myway |

Myway: So you recommend it? I saw the shop last time, made some shopping but missed the cooking lessons.

Well it took only a couple of hours for the lessons. But it's worthwile. At the end you will get all the recepts photocopied. Back home i used them several times.
If you do it let me know i wonder if it is still the same. enjoy myway |

I don't know about Delhi or Dharamsala, but there's a lovely lady in Orchha giving cooking lessons.

In Delhi
Just read this in today's newspaper
Cooking classes by Nita Mehta (She is quite known and has done some TV cookery shows) Address: Culinary Academy S-240, Greater Kailash - II. New Delhi Phones: 29221645, 29221646, 55976202, 9312367920 They have classes not only in Indian cooking but also in Mexican, chinese, Thai, Italian, Desserts etc. So it would be a good idea to call them in advance to know the scedule for classes for Indian cooking (that's what you want isn't it?)

Mcleod Ganj cooking classes
I've taken a tibetan cooking class at Lhamo's kitchen (you'll see signs everywhere). It was Rs. 150 for a single 2 hour class. It was good fun, but fairly simple. I hear the momo class is best. Tomorrow I start a three day Indian class at A taste of India. It covers some of the north indian biggies (chole, samosa, malai kofta, aloo parantha, kheer, paneer tikka masal, etc.) and at Rs. 500 for 3 2-hour classes that include dinner it's pretty reasonable. I ate at their restaurant a few days back and though it was pretty good (and good Indian food can be tough to find in Mcleod). I'll let you know how it goes.

in Bangalore
I know what you mean about the organized cooking in Thailand, attended some myself.
In Bangalore there are 2 that I've attended and am very happy with. Neither of them teach South Indian food. But one does very easy, and excellent north Indian fare. PM me if your interested. cheers!

What I forgot to add was, the weekend newspaper (classified section) might carry this information under hobbies. Check the Times or other such papers

A taste of India
I just did a three day class with Nisha Sarin at a Taste of India in Mcleod Ganj. While i wasn't as hands on as I'd have liked (bring a pen and paper as you'll be writing down he recipes) the food was great and Nisha was a good resource if you have any questions about north Indian food. At Rs 500 for three two hour classes it's pretty cheap. My advice, though, is to try to get into a class with six or seven people (we had eleven and there wasn't enough kheer to go around). She's talking about stopping classes for the off-season however. If she does, I'd still recommend dinner there....
You can e-mail her at Nishasarin@hotmail.com or stop by the restaurant (on Jogibara at the Lotus hotel). |

Going to be in India in 2 weeks time and i'm hoping to do some cookery classes too, hadn't realised that there may be an option to do them in Udaipur. Hopefully get the chance to do them in Kerala somewhere, really enjoying creating curries at home at the minute in Ireland.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here so bear with me. When I visited Chiang Mai last year with my husband I took a really good cooking class. I will be going to Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Jaisamer, Jodhpur and Udaipur in February/March, and I would like to be able to learn how to cook Indian style food. Is this possible? Does anyone know where I may be able to do this. Has anyone done this before. I would appreciate any advice on this. Thank you for all your help. Angela ![]() |

Hi Everyone,
Dont think i've posted before (?!) but have been lerking for a while - fantastic website! Really enjoying reading the threads. Heading out in January and hoping to take on some cooking classes or similar foodie experiences on my way round... alongside the usual sightseeing / volunteering / yoga etc. Starting off in Delhi then heading south so will be covering as much ground as pos. Just thought i'd post in case anyone had done any cooking classes/courses before they would recommend. Cant wait! Happy Travelling xx |
