"Dip nahin kiya to chai kya piya"
means - "If you dint dip ( the biscuit ), what chai have you had" Is it absolutely essential to dip the biscuit into the cup of tea, while having tea ? Every small chai shop has a wide range of biscuits / cookies for dipping. How many of you think the biscuit is absolutely essential to make tea drinking complete ? |

Chai adds to the taste of biscut to a great extent. Soaked but crispy biscut and super soaked biscut which needs to be crefull dropped into the mouth were good childhood companions.
Some where down the life line, I dropped the habit. Now I think I can afford to revisit the past :P

One of the reasons for dunking in the chai is that many of the biscuits do not have much flavour so this 'adds' to it or gives them flavour.

great question
abolutely essential. and given the hard, tasteless nature of many biscuits (well, bought ones anyway), dipping gives them some flavour and makes them less dry and brittle. |

I wud say its absolutely essential
.. Esp in the cold foggy mornings of the himalayas.. Sheer heaven... Infact if the biscuit is too sweet.. you feel feel the tea as bland..

how it is taken is a matter of taste. for me, the first chai of the day has to be with four salted biscuits (britannia timepass or parle monaco) - the four are popped one by one, the first is to let the taste of the biscuit linger on the tongue for just so long to remove the stale taste of the day gone by before it is washed away by the first sip of tea. the second biscuit is chewed alongwith two pods of garlic and then the third is added to it, gulped down with another sip. finally, the last to relish the taste of the biscuit to its full.

Chai and biskoot are a MUST for me in the morning. In fact right now I'm savouring a soaked biskoot even as I type this reply !

I hate when all of the sudden your bikoot breaks and hit the bottom of your chai.
And when you drain out its dead body, its all sticky and slushy. EWWWW

Yes Sadhuji, Britannia's bourbon was the ones, a quick dunk, do not linger as they will end up at the bottom of the cup but then still interesting.
My real favourite is and has been for nearly 30 years, New Zealand's Griffen's Ginger Nuts, very hard and strong flavour, the next would be chocolate fingers, bite the top end off, dunk and suck the coffee or chai up like a straw, talk about decadent. But then I also like to occasionally drop some berry fruit jam into tea, I think that this is a Russian pleasure. |
