Cape Goseberries and Jasmine Tea
Need some help (espcially anyone who lives near Mumbai/Ahmedabad region).
I would like to know when Cape Goseberry season starts. I absolutely loved this fruit but I didn't see it at all last year. Since it is winter and most fruits/vegs are available I thought it might be time for it to pop up again. I will be visiting Mumbai at the end of January and again first part of February so if it is in season there at that time, I would pick some up. Has anyone found Jasmine (green) tea? I absolutely love this tea and have to have people send it to me from the US. I don't care what form it is. Dip-dip(tea bag) or lose leaf. Thanks! |

I'm pretty sure you can get it at The Bombay Store in Mumbai. I got some of excellent green tea at their Fort store, and although not 100% certain, seem to remember jasmine available too.
If you're not going for any other reason, you could call and ask if they have it. Bombay Store locations |

I seem to have bought some somewhere...I am thinking it came from Big Bazaar (I wish I had looked for earplugs when I was there)...its Golden Tips brand, loose leaf that comes in an orange box. And yes, saw some at Bombay Store too. I can send you some if you like from either shop, nor problem.

Aren't you a sweetheart
! I am coming to Mumbai in January so I'll pick it up while I am visiting. Thank you so much for the offer though.Don't suppose you have seen any of the Cape Gooseberries in any of the markets yet? I think they have vanished off the face of the earth! |

Send a truckload North? what do you do with them anyways, eat as is or make jam? I'm not sure if they're in season yet, but I see sitaphals are on the way out BOOOOOO |

Hijack the truck and send it north
! Yea, I eat as is. I have never seen enough or gotten them cheap enough to even consider making jam out of them although I am sure it would be quite tasty. My main problem is I have no idea when their season starts and they are usually only available at the bigger markets so I am afraid of missing the season as it seems to be rather short up here. Sitaphals... are these custard apples the name sounds similiar to the word in Gujarati? I have a tree of these in my backyard. It doesn't produce much now because it is being overtaken by a starfruit tree that sucks up most of the sunlight. I don't care for it much either because only my father-in-law eats them and that too, not very often. It had lots of furry catipiliars this year so I guess if I had known how much you liked them I would have sprayed it and shipped a truck load south ! |
