The best place to buy Indian sweets is at any reputed "Mithaiwalla" or "Halwai" in the city.Almost every city will have at least one such shop. Ask you hotel, they will guide you.

Just a couple of names : D.Damodar Mithaiwalla at Dadar, Mumbai. Parsee Dairy farm at Marine Lines, Mumbai. Nathu Sweets at Bengali Market, New Delhi.

Eating sweets at busy, popular restaurants is also perfectly okay.

I've bought sweets from some grotty-looking shacks on my travels, and never experienced any problems. I suspect the mega-high concentrations of sugar used are sufficient to exterminate even the most virulent of bugs.

Apart from the Sweets,
Theres lots of other tasty snacks to be had especially at temporary stalls & hand carts which often only come out in the evenings, Lots of them have had the same pitch for years and serve the local community, Their food is cooked on the spot & if yiu like that type of thing can't be bettered,,,,,,,,,
