Bland Breakfast for Brits
My folks are arriving in Delhi from the U.K. on a Sunday for their first visit to India. They're arriving in the morning and they've asked me to find somewhere nice for breakfast before I whisk them off to Jaipur. By this they mean somewhere that does a good western style breakfast/lunch that will soothe them after a long flight. Does anyone know about the big hotels near the airport?
I'd thought of the American diner at the Habitat centre but I've only ever had a milkshake there (which was good) - anyone know what their breakfasts are like? Any other suggestions would be welcome! ![]()

Another member VinayVerma was talking about going to the diner for a meetup a while back "So what we have is normal all day breakfast. The buffet breakfast is till 11.00AM only and after that its from the menu. The buffet breakfast costs Rs.135+taxes per person."
From other posts in the same thread it looks like they offer pancakes etc as well as some Indian stuff. Just found their website - http://www.habitatworld.com/Diner.asp Doesn't seem to be a menu but they mention pancakes, waffles etc so it might be a nice spot, it always looks quite clean and pleasant there. Otherwise an upscale hotel would probably offer something but I can't think of anywhere off the top of my head, I'm not a big breakfast eater ![]() |

Yes, I agree with guerik, American Diner at India Habitat Center on Lodhi Road serve all-day breakfast which include pancakes, waffels, eggs, sandwiches, shakes, tea (Assam & Darjeeling), coffee, fresh juices etc.
Last year it was voted as best standalone restaurant for Breakfast. Nice place but gets crowded a bit on Sundays so you may have to wait. Other option is to drive to Uppal's Orchid near the airport for the breakfast and then onto Jaipur. This way you don't have to drive into Delhi and then again drive out again.

Why does one travel to India to eat Western food???
Why not Indian breakfast instead. |

I had breakfast at the Imperial hotel a couple of weeks ago. Very nice! Plus very posh surroundings of course. The Omelettes are good (Come with bacon and hash browns) and they do good cakes and croissants etc. Plus unlimited tea and toast! Almost got hooked on the date jam

Breakfast
I've only had coffee at the Imperial Hotel, but Delhi wallahs have told me their breakfast is outstanding. I've never tried it because my favorite breakfast in the whole world and enduring phantasy after returning from India is aloo puri in bed at Master Guesthouse in Delhi. But I admit this is not for everyone.

Imperial Hotel
I can vouch for the Imperial Hotel. I have never stayed there but I did drop in for lunch three times, most recently in August 1995. Their Mulligatawny soup is recommended. The Imperial sports a great air conditioned lobby with a book store that sells international newspapers and magazines.

Aadil...you are spot on! My boyfriend is Indian and I went with his family to Venice, Italy. They booked an apartment with a kitchen and dragged a huge bag of cooking supplies and spices with us! Not only did we have to have Indian food, but it better be home cooked Konkani food
It sure was tasty though... |

Thanks for all the advice guys. In the end they chose the raddison cos it was 5 mins from teh airport. It was costly but very grand. I waswowed by the fouintain outside and the toilets were the best I've been to in India - they evwen had towls under the urinals to cathc teh drips and feel soft under your feet!
In terms of cooking, us Brits are a bit like Lobsters - a little heat and we go pink all over! |
