When I'm missing western food and I've got extra cash burning a hole in my pocket I go for the lunch buffet at Frangipani in the Oberoi hotel, Nariman Point. Unlimited salads, with great ingredients. Yummy crunchy RAW greens YES YES YES. Otherwise my favorite place would definitely have to be ... oh shit, I forget the name, it's near bombay central, if you walk from the station towards the famous Sardar Pav Bhaji, it's on the left side the road, has an awesome thali, but of course like practically every thali you get in Mumbai it's pathetically stingey with the portion of rice they give you. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!!

We've already had a thread on favourite restaurants in one's hometown. Mumbai has featured in this.
My personal favourite in Mumbai is Balwas restaurant, behind Income Tax Office, New Marine Lines. For non-veg. food, this has been my favourite since childhood !! Favourite dish : Chicken Afghani. For snacks like Bhelpuri, etc., my favourite has always been Vithal's; near New Empire Theatre, CST. Favourite dish : Sev Batata Puri.

I think this Brunch (if this is the place opposite to "gates of India") is pretty amazing stuff. Pricey, but not out of reach, remmeber to dress up (no holes in jeans) and enjoy!Check the link...

There's a great and very popular place up in Andheri west called "Urban Tadka". My friend in Bombay says it's his favorite. It's off J.P. Road... I don't know the exact address but probably not hard to find if you're in that area...

Swamy Mama's
I completely forgot to mention this place:
Swamy Mama's Catering I've eaten here three or four times now, and every time it's been really really good. Read more of my impressions about the place in the description under the photo. |

Anyone been to Tendulkar's restaurant/bar at all?
I walked past it the other day, but wasn't even tempted to cross the street to have a look at the menu. ;-) |

For Sea Food - Trishna (Local Seafood Restaurant in Central Mumbai)
For Indian Mughlai Food - Khyber (Local Restaurant in Central Mumbai) For Chinese - Nelson Waung's China Garden (Local Restaurant in Central Mumbai - WORLI) Actually there are many ... you have to take some time out to see ... what you exactly want, these are local best ... TAJ, JW MARRIOTT and many others do have good food and nice ambience. |

yeah i've been to tandulkars. was ok. horrendously overpriced though - almost had a heart attack when the bill came. but thinking about it in english money, was hardly anything. it was good fun, and we made an evening of it. had cocktails at the bar to start (got the phone number of the cute bartender). oo and they have brilliant prawn cracker things at the bar. could not get enough of them yumyum. and then had a starter and main course (good - and safe - salads there by the way)
it was a good evening. if you've got cash to burn, it's all good fun. and the cleanest place in india! |

Travl_in are you referring to Bade Miya/ Bagdadhi? They are classics.
Here is a link for some nice reviews of some Bombay food places : http://www.mumbainet.com/eatinout/index.htm |

[quote=trvl_in]There's a Muslim restaurant on a corner in the heart of the tourist bazaar a couple of blocks..."that way"... from the Gate thing monument. It has no windows, entrance from two roads, a sign outside forbidding this and that quirky thing. You do not pay at the table, rather you pay at the front. Does anyone recognize the place I'm talking about?
It is very cheap, the food kind of OK standard fare. I love it because it is a great place to get a hearty safe meat meal and to sit and people watch. if i`m not mistaken that is BAGHDADI HOTEL.a few years back a local relation of mine took me there for lunch.the food was delicious but a very busy place. |

barrista!!
omygod. barrista was our guilty pleasure too. ashamed to say that we managed to track one down in most cities we visited. either that or cafe coffee day. and the ice cream and chocolate sauce! i think it's barrista that asked us first if we wanted them on our brownie, and then cafe coffee day asked us if we wanted them in our coffee frappees. we had a stroke of genius and combined the 2. i'm glad we did. we were both rather too thin when we got home - if it weren't for these two wonderful places, i believe we may have wasted away!
