Worst meal in India
... According to the thread "Best meal in India"
I'm thinking about a new one: "Worst meal in India" I believe it could be also very helpful for us to know where it is better not to go. Of course I know it is always very subjective and individually. But it could be interessting mmmh? So what was the worst ever Mine was a rooftop restaurant in Madurai. It belongs to a expensive hotel (can't remember the name) and everything was very very elegant, but the food was bad. The rice was smelly and sticky, the chicken was without any taste and the palak paneer was nearly cold and the cheese was old. ugh! And believe me or not, one year late (2002) I was in the same restaurant with some friends again (sorry) and it was as bad as the year before. |

The samosa's I got from a dhaba in Paharganj, Delhi.
You know when you're eating and you get that 'something's not quite right here' feeling? Well something wasn't, and two days later I was in a Doctor's hooked up to a drip. ![]()

the worst meal huh?... Hmmm... I remmeber getting sick sometime... But I guess you just repress the stuff that tastes bad or you simply stop eating it... Might have had some bad food expirience on a drivetrough in thailand (some scary chicken stuff that been in the pot for way too long) but that doesnt count now does it?

good point, Ikuru... if i don't like something i don't eat it, as simple as that. of course, angelika may have felt compelled to finish the meal having paid handsomely for it... another story altogether

Euw....
Mine was a a place in Manali about 15 years back. It was my first trip to India before I realised buying continental food in some hotels is best avoided. I ordered "spaghetti bolognese" - what I got was some version of macaroni cheese on a bed of salad!! Mmmmmmmmmm! Arnold

How about broadening this thread to include "The Spiciest Meal in India"?

I feel I have to reply to hash666's post above.
We stayed (myself, my wife Caroline and Colin) at Wildgrass a couple of years ago for over a week and thought the food was great there. To show our appreciation there were tips all round for the cook and kitchen staff. |

I was staying with friends in south Delhi and ordered a pizza from a place in Saket PVK. I forget the name. It was very expensive (about 250-/RS) for a personal pan pizza, and the chicken on it was tainted. I got very sick from food poisoning.
All those 12-/RS thalis and assorted street food never made me sick, in comparison... |

Was in Kolkata and stayed at an older place that was not busy at all. Should have known better as the dining room was almost deserted..... A month later (the incubation time) was down with hepatitis A and passing out on the sidewalk in Mumbai. Always felt the place in Kolkata was the infection source. W22 ![]() |

(Thanks Volga...
) I went to the Hari Krishna Restourant in Puri/Orisa, and It was all empty (just opend for the day), at first I thought I would be sick for sure... Than I had one of my BEST meals Ever!!! (some green peas in some basmati rice with AMAZING spices in it (tasted something like cinnomon)... But Most of the time I guess its true that A crowded reasturant is a good reasturant... In the end I would say I had some of my worst meals on my Airoflot trips (But last time was better if not Good!?!), one time I had to land in Moscow, and they gave us breakfast (one pice of white untoasted old toast with Nothing on it and one overboiled egg, that was the whole thing I belive... That sort of sucked... But its the cheapest flight anyways and I can Get like a hundred Thalis in India in some remote place with a magic sunset in the background for the money I save on the plain ticket so its all GOOD! |

Mine was the "pizza" at an "Italian" restaurant in Khajuraho (hopefully now long since gone). Horrible and, ultimately, deadly.
