A colleague who visited from India about 2 years ago said that what he missed was the desi rum in Bangalore. This guy was also surprised how American engineers worked even thru lunch break and went home at 5:00, unlike engineers in India who stayed 'til about 8:00 but had many social breaks in between.

kingfisher in MP

you are spot on in this find....
In Madhya Pradesh Kingfisher is manufatured by SOM Distilleries in BHOPAL...and anything made by SOM is nothing but donkey piss..
When buying booze in MP always look out for where its manufactured...if its SOM then......

cheers

I think Kingfisher is manufactured variously around India under licence to Lowenbrau(?) And yes the place of manufacture does make a big difference.

Agree that in Goa Kings beer really is the king.

the next problem to solve re beer...

now that we seem to be reaching some consensus about where to buy beer, and what to buy - the next problem to turn to is how to get cool enough to drink. Check out the attached (and yes - this guy did actually build it, and it did work, and he is still alive to tell the story). To quote the heroic author...

"What follows is my story about a shed, a warm beer and a home made jet engine. It is being presented for entertainment purposes only and no-one should attempt to emulate what I have done here. The risks should be obvious but it is worth pointing out that beer is a very dangerous substance when used without due care.

Please be careful!"

Out of subject a bit, but the best NZ brew I've had is Tui India Ale. It is an India Ale so not that far off topic.

At least some of the Kingfisher sold in the US now is brewed in upstate New York (and it's pretty good).

hmm......mairangi vice must be off line as I'm sure not only would he agree - he'd proposed getting a swappa crate of it (which together with a barbie and a guitar would be pretty good right about now).

but yes - definitely off topic.

I stayed in one dry hotel in Delhi and the room boy showed me the ropes about that particular service ...... fast forward almost exactly 5 years until my next return to that spot ..... same room boy shows up at the door and remembers me and my needs ..... 2 beers bahut thanda.

<wonders what those people do for mental exercise to have memories like that ..... from one who can't remember where he placed the car keys last night >

The taste depends also on the water used for brewing the beer.

I remember a couple close calls trying to sneak bottles of Kingfisher and rum out of Pondy. Crazy that it would be illegal to take booze outside of a city if you paid for it already.
