I can't answer that, but I can say that the ones that I bought, at a reputable store, tasted just like the ones I buy in London.

Counterfeit bean suspicions, eh?

No... I think they are genuine.

But no such good deals to be had here in Chennai: I'll keep my eyes open

Nick-H, check out how prices of goods such as beans have shot up in the UK. Everything has increased in price over the last year.

Considering we have had conterfeit toothpaste, shaving blades and cigarrettes, I think beans will be next. Whats to stop someone buying pallet loads of cheap Aldi and Lidl beans and replacing the labels with Heinze ones ? Double the price and make a small fortune whilst undercutting the supermarkets.

Lidl baked beans are very good quality, not all mushy and gooey like Heinze. ASDA ae the worst, the colour is yucky.

In 2000 I was in Himachal and found a shop selling Baked Beans (Indian brand), I was over the moon and bought a few cans. Got home and they stunk like Pedigree Chum but being brave I did a beans curry with them and eat them.

Captain is correct.

You can get Heinze baked beans in Jullundhur, Phagwara (Metro Store). I have even seen them for sale at small neighbourhod shops where there is an NRI population.

Our user from Jullundhur Manreet16 will be able to direct to you shops that sell in Jullundur. He is a very helpful person so drop him a PM.

In Chandigarh head down to sector 17 and head to toward music world. Look at music world (face forward) and turn to your right and head straight down. There is a shop there that sells groceries and they stock Heinze baked beans. You can even buy frozen oven chips from there, pasta, cheese etc etc. A bit expensive but they do have everything. I bought some Tobasco Sauce from there.

If you like a firmer bean, Smith & Jones (Indian) beans will be fine for you.

I like Heinz mush!

It's probably a British thing. Bacon, eggs, toast, marmalade, baked beans

Cap'n,

Its probably an Aussie thing too. Look back to the Shane Warne incident a few years ago. That still has me scratching my head - him prefering Baked Beans to the exclusion of *any* type of Indian food.

Maybe we should merge this thread with the Dosa thread?

Now... which do I prefer: baked beans? Or dosa?

that's right up there with hot milk in your cereal...:
Two things that I love....

Breakfast here in Ireland is 2 sausages, 2 rashers (slices of bacon), baked beans, 2 slices toast, fried/scrambled egg, black pudding, hash brown, all washed down with a mug of tea and a glass of orange juice.

That'll put the hairs on your chest!
