Availability of Bourbon?

Is Bourbon generally available in India? If so, at what prices? I'm trying to determine whether I should bother to carry any with me. I'm also more than content with Rye should it be in greater supply.

I saw Jim Beam for sale in Mumbai at the local Wine Shop (liquor store), but very expensive since its an import, not sure if local bourbon is produced.

Thanks for the prompt replies! I knew it would have to be imported (like scotch it is only produced in certain regions), just wasn't sure if it is imported and what premium it might demand. Sounds like it might be too expensive to bother with...

I am really not considering bringing a great deal with me but if it isn't readily available it might be worth bringing some for the novelty aspect. Also, Beam is not particularly good bourbon in my opinion. If that is all that is available it might be worth bringing some of the good stuff to share with the occassional local or unfamiliar tourist.

Hmmmm... Bourbon biscuits? Are they bourbon flavored or is there some French connection in the name? I take it Indians follow British convention and biscuits are what North Americans would call cookies?

All of your imported brands have got to be expensive so how about widening the pallet . I'm a scotch drinker and found some of the local brands OK ,so experiment . I settled , in the end for old monk rum as a staple, not whiskey , but very nice

I certainly enjoy trying local brands and it sounds as if I'll have to give Old Monk a shot! I've seen the name in a few threads but didn't realize it was a rum. I am actually quite fond of rum and won't have any problem switching over for a while. Any other particularly worthwhile brands I should look for?

One can get Jack Daniels in Delhi and in Chandigarh for sure , being easier in the latter. Not sure about prices though but i would peg it at between 1200 - 1600...but i could be wrong. I love JD but dont buy it in India , keep getting it at regular intervals from friends in Dubai..
