Are samosa wallahs a dying breed??
For my last post out of Holland (and because wwusa mentioned she'd had some "dynamite samosas" in Delhi and I forgot to ask where!!)
What do you think, it seems to me that the old carts with the guy sitting frying his samosas are dissappearing, these guys used to do wicked samosas and chutneys to die for all washed down with a good cup of chai!!
Sure you can still get the samosas in the dhabas but for me they're often dissapointing!Even on the train platforms they're fast becoming a thing of the past!!
Is it just me being nostalgic or is this the case??
Any of you got great tips or memories of the classic samosa!! Especially around Delhi!!

fleeting samosas...
The blue mountain train to Ooty stops in Coonoor for about 10 minutes.
No samosa vendors seemed to be allowed near the train, so I purchased samosas across a metal grille from an old fellow who had a stack on a metal tray.
These were outstanding samosas, not only fresh and crunchy, but the filling included cabbage and beets, nicely spiced, and was a major revelation. I know they're not the classic potato-cauliflower stuff, but I thought they were extraordinary. And I never saw them elsewhere.
I tried to go back and get more but he was gone.
Has anybody met this vendor or eaten this type of samosa?

Tomi, the samosas you describe sound very similar to some I had on Dindigul train station about 2 years ago, they were delicious.

This is torture...
Might nip down to the "India Club" for a quick dosa...
I'll report back on the Kerala / TN samosa scene after Christmas...

Hmm.don't agree Cyber, I think Samosa is going to be around for ever.
In Delhi, almost every small/big shopping place (or bunch of shops together) will have atleast one selling samosa.
Some of the best samosas, Kachoris, Mirchi vada, and pakoras I had was in Jodhpur...yummm and HOT...

Reminds me of a pickup line we have here in multicultural California-
"let's get together for samosa, dosa, otra cosa"

I've been eating cold samosas all day at work, so if I get 'larger', it's down to Cyberhippie.
