All I want is a Dosa, just one Dosa...

Been back in the states for a week and back to the Catskills which are beautiful and snowy at the moment. everything is good, but all I can think about is having a Dosa and there is no where for miles.

Just thinking of the crispy, crunchy texture of the pancake and the hot sambar and the cool coconut chatni...fill it with masala potatoes and yum...

*SIGH*

Hmmm...

Oddly enough, I could make them in London, but whenever I try here I just end up with a nasty, sticky blob .

Of course, I don't have to go far to buy one

Aww poor asicola! You should come down to NYC and have a Dosa! I think the snow has cleared a bit - at least in Brooklyn
Good luck on your dosa quest! Even when I eat them now here they taste nothing like the ones in India

Reading this almost makes me make one right now. I have sambhar ready, but, it will take some time to prepare the dosa dough (do not like the packets - too much baking powder and salt) and coconut chutney. Damn, my mouth is watering, if I had read this thread a couple of hours ago, I would have plunged right away.

It's been a rough week here in Amrika. We've been subjected to the trauma of having to envision John "Grandpa Grumpypants" McCain in En Flagrante Delicto . .the horror!!! The only thing that can get that out of my tortured mind is the thought of a crispy dosa.

Thanx for the rescue!!!!

cheating

The answer is Gits ready mix. Not as good as the real thing, but if there is no alternative for the dosa cravings... My fave is the rava dosa.

Now my mouth is watering. I may have to brave the big storm heading my way to go out in search of a dosa.

Check out the video clip in this article. Yum.

Another 'cheat':

http://www.deepfoods.com/udupi.asp

Frozen Mysore Masala Dosa, Masala Dosa, Rava Dosa, Vada, Utappam, Sambar..... Made fresh in your microwave.

OK to keep us going, till we do a 100+ mile drive to Atlanta and MGR Palace.

MGR Palace platter to cure most cravings:

dzibead -

Thanks for sharing the videos link! I wish they showed the cook flipping the dosa though. That is crucial step where I always fail. Miserably.

When I was watching the video on the wikipedia page, the little icon on the upper left looked like an idly steamer. I thought - oh how cute. Oh wait, it's just a film canister!
