New York City Meetups
Looking forward to being there. Where ever there may be!
Same here. Will be there at any location in Manhattan
Both Sarvanas and dimple are inexpensive, vegetarian and
good.
Sarvanas is from Tamilnadu and excellent Dosas, idlis,
Utthapams and chutnis. Also south indian thalis. I do not
remember, if they have north indian veg. food.
I have been to Dimple in Islin, New Jerser a number of times.
As I understand NY Dimplke is also owned by the same people.
They serve different varieties of Bombay street food, dosas,
idlis, chinese, north indian etc. Very interesting experience,
particularly, many dishes are small and can/should be shared
to enjoy . Wish I could come but ------
Enjoy and good luck.
No drinks there. Call if they allow BYOB.
DIPAK

DIPAK
The NY restaurant is part of the Chennai chain and is spelled SARAVANAAS. Its at 81 Lexington Ave, Ive only dipped in once - a limited menu, but more than just iddlis dosas and thali. some great items on that thali, a young south asian clientele.
Im fond of Dimple too. In addition to their buffet lunch (which Ive never sampled) They have a big menu including lots of gujarati vegetable specialties and snacks, south indian stuff from dosas to delicious curd rice.

Saravanaas it is then! I did some research, and found this article in the NY Times:

Let's plan on meeting there on 10/7 at 12:30pm. The address is 81 Lexington Avenue (26th Street); (212) 679-0204.
How's that for everyone?

I think one has to make advanced reservation on weekends during Lunch time because they tend to get crowded pretty fast. Also keep in mind there is a "Sarvanas Bhavan" on 27th; which is not what we are looking for
Ahhhhh, good paan. Haven't had one in a while. Even more reasons to be there!
Gotta love the Paan!
See you all there!
