And... would you believe it, but there's a meet in Mumbai today too!

Hey, how's about some of you guys rate this thread a few stars more, it's been underrated by presumably some jokers for a long time now. Anyway, have fun folks

Indeed a small one

The meetup though a small one, was certainly a very enjoyable one. Booze flowth, peanut chaat and fish tikkas were quite delicious.... a pic will be forthcoming soon.....

Sorry all- I did try. I only half remembered the directions, so we ended up driving round in circles trying to find the place (not easy in an Ambassador you know, even with power steering! ). I'm really disappointed, it would have been great to meet you. I'm determined next time to get something in the diary.

Right now I'm sick as a dog- I managed to avoid the fever and chills that are rampant in Delhi at the moment (a friend wasn't so lucky- but I'll tell that story some other time), but why oh why did the lassi wallah put ice in my lassi? Oh dear oh dear... Ouch ouch ouch.

Karuna - sorry to hear this. Drink soda water as a tummy settler, lemon soda even better. And only plain rice and banana for a while. Hope you get better soon. Are you on your way back now?

I'm home now (and it's not raining!), but the flights (via Bahrain) were horrendous. I was dehydrated, with a thumping headache and muscle cramps. I had no diarolyte with me and couldn't remember the formula for mixing salt and sugar to make rehydration salts. When I asked the stewardesses for sugar they assumed I was diabetic! (I didn't disavow them of this because it got me some excellent service!)
Thankfully the flight to Heathrow was only about one-third full and I was able to lie down across four seats, and the crew were really great bringing salt, sugar, blankets, water, really helpful. I never sleep on flights but I just passed out and remained asleep for most of it.

But anyway, this was really awful and I'm going to post it here because it doesn't fit anywhere but I want to say it. Most of the people on the flight from Delhi to Bahrain were Indian men. I was seated next to a Sikh gentleman. When I spoke to the stewardess about feeling sick, she asked me if I would like to sit with the crew at the back, because "at least we don't smell"!! WTF?!

That's nasty, Karuna, as is your final anecdote

Write this in your guidebook diary whatever and keep it with you: http://www.rehydrate.org/solutions/homemade.htm#recipes

Quote:
Ingredients:

one level teaspoon of salt
eight level teaspoons of sugar
one litre of clean drinking or boiled water and then cooled
5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.)

Preparation Method:

Stir the mixture till the salt and sugar dissolve.
The commercial ORS (oral rehydration salts/solutions) will presumably have some minerals and stuff added, but this is a good DIY-approach. More tips on that page & site.

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_rehydration_salt , which links to it, and which gives the WHO ORS ingredients as well. And always remembering to take Wikipedia with, er, a pinch of salt (pardon the horrible pun) as it's made by its users. It just makes for easy quick reference.

And ps nice to know the meet-up went well once again -- who'd have expected any different

Thanks machadinha- I will definitely keep this formula written somewhere on my person next time. It should be in big red letters somewhere in the "health" board too, if you ask me!
Typical that this time I decided to go without a guidebook and this happens.
