New Delhi Meetups
Pretty new to this website...but have been a travel freak....want to come for one of the meet ups...Going through 416 pages of enormous reviews/comments is pretty exhasuting...so can anyone please tell the final date and venue for the meet...I ll be grateful....
well it looks like there are a couple coming up in jan - 3rd/4th and 9th - no need to read 400 odd pages, just have a flick through the last few. the meet up on the 9th looks like it's shaping up to be the bigger one at present, though no venue has been proposed so just keep dropping in on the thread to find out
as for me, have unfortunately missed out on the last few meet ups, so looking forward to attending the one on the 9th

I'll be at the Jan. 9th meet for sure folks, can't readily see where else I would be
Like I said from the beginning, I trust our regular Dilli-ites will take care of venue & stuff. I personally prefer something that's open to all (and that includes prices being non-prohibitive), not too rowdy to make it hard to have a conversation (not me, but I know some members who are hard of hearing to name but a very practical consideration), and it's probably handy if the place is not too fussy about how many will show up precisely, or how long exactly everyone will stay. I.e., about very precise reservations. (If they want us gone at a certain hour, it's always possible of course to announce on this board OK we meet at hour X and you have till hour Z to show up, after that we'll be moving on to undesignated places.)
Other than that, I do indeed trust you guys our trusty stalwarts can come up with something, and will gladly leave it into your capable hands
(Isn't Delhi justly famous for its IM meetings anyway?)Jyoti, yes, Nizamuddin Dargah, I'm certainly set to go there on the evening of Jan. 7th, and as I said before, anyone who wants to tag along is just welcome to do so. If you yourself, Jyoti, can accompany me there, that would make it ever so much more special to me, of course
I take it Shashank is something of an aficionado himself, so if he were willing to join us, then yes, please do, by all means
(To others, it's the tomb of a Sufi [roughly Islamic mystical] saint, namely mr. Nizamuddin, and there are music performances there by his devotees, known as Qawwali [the music, not the devotees]. You can read all about it here: Nizamuddin Tomb. Thursday evening performances are renowned, and supposed to start at 19:45.)
I'd been thinking to ask you in private how to get there (I'll be coming from Paharganj I reckon, or am in fact quite sure. Given my timings, I'll be looking at a siesta before I think
) and make it there at, what, say 19:00 or so to be sure. If more want to come, a meeting spot would be handy. Maybe by Nizamuddin station or so, is that handy and/or close? I don't know the area at all, have never been there.Anyway it being something of a sub-project, let's not give it too much ado, to confuse other meetings being scheduled here. But if you can leave directions to the Dargah & maybe suggest a meet-up spot there, we could just say 7 or 7.30 it is there, and who is not there is a goofball.
(I thought I'd check TimeOut Delhi and Delhi Burrp btw to get in the mood for events to attend, but it seems their websites are horribly limited for anything beyond the running week or so. Oh well, will just pick me up a copy of TimeOut when I get there
Hope it's as good as the Mumbai edition, which I found pretty decent, if not to say just quite excellent.)

To your question Mach, India Habitat centre(IHC) at Lodhi road is a decent place to meet and very well known as a landmark. Eatopia in the IHC is a place for low cost food and good sitting/meeting.Also IHC is a cultural happening place. From here you are within a short autorickshaw hop to the Dargah.
Or closer to the Dargah you have Karim's a well known food place for Mughal era cuisine, a one minute walk from the Dargah. The dargah itself is a location that needs no directions. Close to Humayun's tomb. Ask anyone and everyone. Why do you think GPS doesen't pick up in India?
Take your pick and say where.
From Paharganj take an autorickshaw unless you want to get into a Hazrat Nizamuddin bound local train(All trains going to Faridabad and Agra) or an 'Ashram' or 'Faridabad' bound DTC bus.
I am not sure about the 7th but see you on the 9th.
Where are you, Shashank/Nikhil. Come up with a venue for the 9th.

Alone I walked. Strangers joined in. We became a caravan.

Romali roti for sure, KK (and thanks for the thought
), however the kebab would have to be either vegetarian or fish-filled, I'm afraid
(Had some excellent "veg. kebabs" -- one of those strange neologisms anyway, like a meat vegetarian casserole or something? -- earlier this year in Mumbai, btw, not uncommon there. I'm sure we'll manage, one usually does, and I'm not very picky with it.)
EDIT: Oh, ps, now I hadn't read back far enough here, sorry; So thanks, Labrol, for those directions, and you're sure another one I'm looking forward to meet. Try and make it on the seventh, and if not, the ninth, for sure.
I'll follow up here with a plan for the 7th based on those directions then, later.
I'm up for the 9th! And then I can say farewell to to you all as I'm leaving India on the 14th

New to this thread (but not to IM
). Would love to come for the meet on the 9th. I live in Delhi and will be glad to help in organizing the whole thing.
IHC is a good place to meet and is widely known. Karim's is good but Al Jawahar is better (I'm sure you'd find the debate on which of the two is better, raging at a lot of places).
Another suggestion is the Central park in Connaught Place. A lot of good eating joints are close-by and of course CP is most easily accessible.

Renovation at CP is going on in phases. One block at a time. It is not as hap-hazard as you may see somewhere else in Delhi. I went there the week before. Traffic was a bit heavy .. but I was able to find a parking spot for my car. Otherwise, Metro is always a good option. Similar Threads
