| From Boston_Harry Hello my Delhi friends! I'm so glad that all of you thought about me. I must say - I believe that my 5 days in Delhi were the best days of solitude ever for me. Before entering India on Dec. 25th, I was quite concerned, if you couldn't tell from my posts. I thought that I must do something crazy in life, and my calling was to surprise my extended family and Mom in Cochin, Kerala, and this was to take place on Dec. 30th. However, I decided to add to that craziness and just hang out in Delhi for 5 days at Majnu Ka Tilla in Delhi. I was very worried based on what my Indian friends and guidebooks had to say. They painted a mosaic of Delhi as being an anarchic, over-crowded, filthy, crude, and dangerous place, especially for people like me (i.e. naive, rustic, and mono-lingual). However, I had this feeling that India wasn't quite the Temple of Doom that I had imagined when I landed at the Indira Gandhi Airport. It was remarkably better than the Charles De Gaulle Airport. Moreover, everyone waited in lines with the same law-abiding nature as Americans, and the airport employees were enthused and professional (not the communist era dead beats). When I landed at Majnu Ka Tilla, I settled in, and then I looked around Delhi later that day. I immediately felt at ease. They were not the pickpocketing thugs that I had been frightened to believe by my friends. In fact, I began to understand that all people were more similar than I thought, and this world is quite small. I know that this is a sappy/rainbowy type of comment, but it was somewhat of an epiphany to me when it occurred to me how interconnected we are in this world. This epiphany became my central theme on my trip. On the 27th, I had the honor to meet up with all of you: Karuna, Kaushik, Mahesh, Oscar, Shashank, and others. And yes, thanks for remembering that the mutton was amongst the best I've ever had. It was a very fun evening for me, and my big regret was that we only met up one time. I sincerely appreciate Kaushik's and Shashank's hospitality and fun-loving nature, and all the wisdom that I got from others over there. I actually use Oscar's quote about Indian Democracy >> Chinese Authoritarianism over here. One more thing, I went to Cochin, Kerala, to surprise my family on the 30th. It was one hell of a surprise for them! My Godfather was turning 75 on January 4th, and so 'no', it wasn't a wedding that I had to attend (but my family still bugged me about getting married). I can't wait for my next Delhi Meetup. |

| Nice to hear from you Harry! I hope you haven't been spoiling any more autorickshaw drivers! Looks like I escaped the IM meetup camera lens one more time. My identity remains a secret never to be uncovered by those who don't turn up to IM meetups. ![]()
