Meetup of 21st Aug 09

OK the Meet-up/Eat-up happened as planned ... there were 8 people who attended.

The discussions were so interesting and on such diverse topics, that I quite forgot to take pictures (though I had taken my camera to Mysore Cafe). Here is a brief note on those who attended:

1. Amarshah: Talked about his yatch sailing adventures on the sea, off-Gateway of India and his skiing lessons at Auli etc.

2. HV Kumar: Was center of attraction. His first IM meetup and he had a lot to talk about his driving passions, highway/route knowledge ... and how he managed to escape from the Bihar Cops trying to clobber his scorpio for "election duty" while he was trying to cross the length of Bihar stealthily at night during elections in April-09 (During his record cross-country drive from Kibuthu in ArunachalPradesh to Koteshwar in Gujerat)

3. Praks: talked about his climbing expeditions, including one time when he had to return disappointed, from 2000ft below Mt Everest summit.

4. SK: About his recent Darma Valley Trek with me (details already covered in his thread on IM).

5. Ronuk: came late and did'nt eat-up due to his "upvaas" ... and didnt get much chance to talk either, as others were already charged-up!

6. Ashwin Kasekar: A friend of HVKumar (non-IMer)who was returning to Thane, with HVK, and so just joined us for the Eat-Up! He is supposed to be an expert on Auto-Electricals.

7. Prabal K. Das: My friend, non-IMer, who is coming with me on the next Road tour to LEH-Ladakh, with HVK and his gang of Scorpio Owners.

8. And me (KS): I let SK do the talking about Darma Valley, while I concentrated on hogging Rasam-Vada, Neer-Dosa and Ulundu-Dosa topped up with S.Indian filter coffee!

Meet of 21 Aug 09

That was a very nice get-together, enjoyed the conversations, neer dosas and sambar vadas. The warmth at the table was more than the steam from the fliter kaapi tumblers. It was great hearing of sylvan valleys and snowy crests in India and Nepal. Thanks, all.

Yes, this meet was of a different kind than what I had earlier attended.

At the end of the meet-up, I had a feeling that trekkers were sold to driving trips while HVK was sold to trekking .

This qualifies for one of the 'quotes of the year' award!
With HVK's reputation he would probably trek for 40 hours non stop...

Thanks KS for a detailed meet up report.

Never new about Praks's Mt. Everest expedition. Seems it was finished before I arrived. It must have been a big disappointment for him. Praks, any link on the experience ?

Ronak.

Anyone else than me was to restaurant Kanchi in Andheri-East for meet up? I was there anyway in time (August 8, 4 pm) and waited to at least 8pm.

It's sad that this Mumbai meet ups seems to have problem every time, this is second unsuccessful meet up. Last time was when machadinha was to planed meet up but no one and he came to it. I can't understand what problem is and I planed time and date long time in advance for other to plan to this meet up but only me came. I almost pay 600 rupees for only taxi to take me to the restaurant and back to hotel later again.

I order some food later anyway and after that (+ a couple of beer later) went back to my hotel. I'm back home again and don't know when I visit India again. Maybe one year from now I hope. Whatever next meet up is planed and will be, I hope it will be more successful even if I can't be there.

Take care

Hello Mumbai, That's really bad! But I wish you have at least enjoyed food there!! Well, this is the second time in 2 months that I hear about the unsuccessful mumbai meetup. I don't know what happen that all end with frustration!!!
I will be in Mumbai at the end of september. before I was so excited about the meetup but reading your post...

Well, I think we should try our best to find a solution to this and make from mumbai's meetup the best ever...Actions speaks louder than words, so let's plan for the next meetup!!!

In my understanding, any two or more IMers (in Mumbai or anywhere else) keen for a get-together may meet-up at any Venue & Date-Time of their mutual choice and convenience.

Its not good, if people who agreed to attend a Meet-Up don't show up, unless there was an emergency. Even then, a post in the meet-up thread or a phone-call to others attending, explaining absense (2-3 hours before Meet-up) is in order; so others don't endup waiting.

I don't think there is any specified "local organiser" required to initiate these Meetups. Anybody could call for a meet-up, evaluate the response and then finalise.

I hope my understanding is correct? ... others are welcome to post their views

KS is right... just to add exchange your contact numbers prior via "pm" so you can confirm... All said and done confirming and not showing up is BAD
