Somnath n Kausik,

I am game for almost anytime.

Khak,

If you want , you can call me on 98310 01268.

Meanwhile I am planning a day trip to the floriculture belt near Calcutta.

Every winter I see the lovely flowers - Chrysanthemums, Dahlia, Marigold etc. flooding our local market. The source must be nearby. My florist & others told me they are from East Midnapur/Panskura area. These flowers are being sent to other states and abroad as well. I guess they are doing commercial production out there and there must be areas/villages where you will get to see the flower fields in bloom. My favourite is the Yellow Chrysanthemum (Pompon variety).I am trying to find out the exact village/location and the right time. It could be an enjoyable long drive in the winter, have food at Ajad Hind Dhaba Kolkaghat, then take a village trip, enjoy the flowers , come back by the evening.Would love to take my wife & son to such a place.
If Van Gogh could draw the "Sunflowers" and Beatles can visit the "Strawberry Fields" , why dont we explore the "Village of Chrysanthemum" at West Bengal ?
There's some election on 7th Nov, so the next Sunday would be ideal. By then I am hopeful to find the source and locate the village. Am checking with the BDO & DHO of that area.

Anyone is welcome to join the adventure :--)

Just taking a wild guess, and I might be absolutely wrong...if a name of a place has got something to do with how the place actually looks like, you can try a place called 'Phuleshwar'. There's a station by the same name on the Howrah-Panskura rail line ...and as far as I remember, its not far away from Howrah (probably a couple of stations after Santragachhi)...and yes, I have seen marigolds being cultivated by the banks of Rupnarayan in Kolaghat!

I would love to join, but cannot commit at this moment. I am scheduled for a New York + London official trip on 7th Nov. Which I might have to cancel somehow as my father is hospitalized at this moment. Depending on how my father is and if I am in Kolkata, I will confirm late this week.

Ok,
I managed to talk to an actual farmer in Panskura over telephone (Used all my contacts :-)).He cultivates Asters (Lovely Violet,Pink & White flowers which blooms in late winter) I am given to understand that some other farmers are cultivating Gladiolis,Antihrinum & of course my fav yellow Chrys. He informed that budding has started for the Chrysanthemums and by the end of this month they should be in full bloom.
So everyone relax, would update you all & make our plans. It would be a cool drive.
Yesterday had a nice evening with the BEATLES tribute band from London,my entire family "Twist n shout"-ing to our favourite songs at CCFC ground.... Comfortably numb with Seagrams 100 pipers

Friends,
Last Sunday we went to see the "Paaka dhaan khet" (Paddy fields :harvesting time) along Delhi road. It was a smooth 1.5 hours drive past Palsit of Burdwan & we got the paddy fields. The afternoon sun rays casting long shadows over the paddies and making them dazzle golden yellow ... was really a sight to see.Had a nice time there, walking down the fields, meeting local people.Burdwan is known as the "Rice bowl" of West Bengal.Had a nice time there.
Pack a snack at the Hindusthan Dhaba, food was simple but good.
Delhi road is too good , you just zooooom through it.
Got busy after returning home with some emergencies at home but thats another story.
Would plan The flower visit at end November.

That's good news Kaushik. Santanu is also having some medical issues in his home front and wish him all the best!

We're in the final preparatory leg of our Himachal trip - and boy, am I excited!

We also went out y'day evening to North Kolkata to experience Allen's - report here: Kolkata nostalgia & gastronomy. The photos that we clicked are here.

My baby have taught me to enjoy small things in life once again, as I did in my childhood, and thanks to her, we all had a great evening y'day.

A BIG HELLO to All of You from us 4 again. We had been out of touch for this long as our computer's motherboard had decided that it better not wait for 2012 AD and deserted us, not even giving us a chance to at least recover your mobile nos. which were saved in IM inbox only. It has been coaxed into action from today and here we are savouring whatever we've missed so far on this great site. We certainly missed attending the last meetup.
Loved to see the photos, especially of the new attendees. Thanks Indracal, Santanu and Kausik for keeping us updated and remembering us.
