Natasha: LOL ..Let me hold my chair lest I fall down... yes, the grip is fine ..LOL again

No doubt, we have demanding wives (answering in proxy for Vinay as well) I don't keep a cell phone so am saved from the phone calls of where are you? with whome? when are you reaching? etc. etc. etc. We have made both of them realise that we in good company of each other and won't do anything more than what they permit

There are so many dimensions to our meet-ups ...but the most important is geographic (his home is stone throw from my office) and we bump into each other..and the discussion starts, builds on, more people join in and then we are a gang............2nd dimension is I keep forgetting things in his car (from chocolates to laptop) that gives us an excuse to meet again and all are invited/welcome to join-in to explore other dimensions.....

Vinay : kya aap sach me aise na the?

BTW : what is "mukhebhat" ?

what is "mukhebhat" ?

ashish , it is ceremony where the kid/baby take/eat rice (solid food) for the first time . If you translate the word "mukhebhat" it means "to put rice in mouth". The bengalee's celebrate the day.Usually this happens on an auspacious day between 5th - 7th month of the kid. The most imp. thing is that this ritual has to be perform before the kid gets/ have his first teeth.

Sorry natasha for answering on your behalf.

That's perfectly all right, datta da! You saved me the trouble. I think they have the ceremony across India. In the south, they have a naming ceremony. In the north, i don't know what it is called. In bihar it is called "mukhjhutti". Another name in bengali is "annaprasan".

As for Ashish, "aapke lakshan bilkul theek nahi lagte!" I tell you!! Leaving your laptop and stuff behind in Vinaya's car. Vinay, I'm surprised you fell for such cliched tricks!! "Mujhe to pahale hi shak tha!" I knew it! What is "man"kind coming to??? (LOL)

Thank you Natasha for sharing another dimension of Sudhher and I’m absolutely happy to read this post. And Ashish & Vinay, what is that history of “man"kind ??????????

Yes Deccan must introduce a flight from Calcutta to B’lore!!! They should know that there is worlds best prawn malai curry "cooker" in Bangalore!!??)

Natasha , how could you miss to mention the attached-bath facility in that cinema hall?

hahahaa!!

Attached bath! With a bath tub and all the frills. Does anyone remember the thread about Indian toilet manners and some brilliant observation by Shakthi palooza about the services of the monkey. Well, this attached bath in the cinema hall comes with a monkey couple. One gives you the famed wash after you've used the loo, the other gives you a good back scrub in the tub. And of course, you get a complimentry massage after the movie is over. And before i get any more gross, let me call it a day.

Somnath, i had a wonderful day. Thank you.

Rocky, have you finally caught on???

Ah! finally I work out how to upload the picture!

Here we are, Somnath with Mr & Mrs TQ! Thanks for a lovely evening Somnath. Next time we will leave enough room in our itinerary to see Calcutta and meet your family. The little statue of Vishnu you gave us has a special place next to our Ganesh (who helped us out in Assam)

Incidentally, before anyone thinks we have delusions of grandeur - the "Quine" in Torryquine doesn't mean "queen". It's actually the local dialect word for young lady (so I use it ironically). The male equivalent is "Loon", so Mr TQ should actually be Mr TL ie "Torryloon". Confused? I hope so. So there is nothing remotely regal about us, but I did feel rather posh in my best salwar kameeze.

Meet-ups are great. This is the best way to meet a ready-made friend in a place you've never been. And when you are flashing through, as we did in Calcutta, this is a great way to get some sort of 'handle' on the place, beyond the superficial.

There's no reason why we couldn't have a meetup in Scotland, there appear to be a few of us up here. Otherwise, next time I'm down south, I'll try to arrange one for London.

All the best

Thumbs up That's great!

It is nice to see our meetup photograph TQ. Thanks to the unknown friend who helped to click the photo and thanks to our well-known friend to help you to upload it ! And thank you for the clarification on your user ID. I didn’t know the meaning of “Quine” & “Loon”, it has enriched my vocabulary.

Let us see what India has planned for your next trip!

“I hope so. So there is nothing remotely regal about us, but I did feel rather posh in my best salwar kameeze.” – Ha Ha . Good one! But we are waiting to see you in your “Mekhla”.

Good luck for your London meetup.

Mekhla is a locally woven 3 peice garment that is worn like a wrap skirt at the bottom and a blouse and a dupatta tucked in the pattern of a sari. Traditionally worn by Assamese women.
