To help the uninitiated, what Hyderabadi is trying to tell in Hyderabadi lingo is that:

1. it may be described as Hyderabadi ishstyle to forget turning up for a meeting; moreover people whom you have kept waiting don't think that as a bad habit either .......you may turn up for a meeting, don't find anybody......find someone else you know and spend hours chatting accompanied by few rounds of Irani chai

2. time for a meeting in Hyderabad is not always measured in exact hour.........once you decide to meet you may actually meet anytime within a time span of days.......

3. Ganidpet ka pani=water of Gandipet ( or for that matter of Hyderabad)......... after few years of drinking water of Hyderabad you won't feel surprised by such incidents as by that time you would have done the same couple of times

hope this helps to understand Nawabi culture of Hyderabad

Khak has explained it all wonderfully. Apparently he has drunk enough Gandipet ka paani.

Simple requests like "Give me the keys to your bike(car, apartment, home, office..whatever), I'll be back in a couple of minutes." are met usually and understandably with "Oh, before I give you the keys, I have something urgent to take care of, I'll be back in a couple of minutes."

.... and years pass..........

Khak has indeed captured the spirit. When I first arrived in Hyderabad for a long stay, it drove me crazy, all this arranging of meetings and then no one showing up. Or turning up elsewhere, five weeks later, acting like it was no big deal. But I quickly got into the swing of things and learned to appreciate the plus side. For instance, I could lock my place and disappear for a month at a time, sometimes for two or three months, with no explanation, and come back and find no one in the least bit surprised, only happy to see me again. In fact, that was 1995. I stopped wearing a watch then and still don't own one. What's the point? If it's important, it'll get done soon. If not, we'll all forget about it, with any luck.

Key words all of them.

No luck involved. just do it.

Good one Paying Guest. You and Khak bring back a lot of memories and also current temptations to avoid appointments.

Ah, to live the care free life... who cares?

Better than Murphy's Law, way better, : If it's important, it'll get done soon. ................ If not, we'll all forget about it.

Thanks & Cheers.

Poor gullible you, Billyshake.

Not to worry, lets have a BBQ next when I'm in town. I've drunk enough Amerikan paani to learn how to keep appointments. I'll bring the dry rub and sauce. Promise.

Georgia paani though, mind it.

Oh, I'm quite okay last Friday, actually; quite a far site from being gullible, as well (I believe you may have been searching for a different word on that one?). You can quite literally put me in a room with nothing but a shoe and a paper clip and I'd still talk away. I honestly believe I'd be good for one of those long Mars trips...except I don't want to have to push any buttons or do any science stuff and or crap on that freaky suction toilet.

But as to all the late meetings; like I said, socially this doesn't bother me a lick. I'm a total flake when it comes to such things -- In fact, one time Capt. Mahajan (who has since become a good friend in "real life") accidentally replied to me when he meant to forward one of my crazy questions to Nick-H saying, "damn this bllyshake is a flake!"

But at the office...this attitude of doing or not doing and just saying 'meh' when shit has to get done? Yeah, homie don't play that anymore. I'm sure some of you have read about my dilemmas with just his issue. Well, I've been on a firing spree the last couple of weeks, actually. The staff seems more attentive now for some reason.

p.s. I've never before had a man cry and beg me to reconsider as TWO guys did, while the one woman I let go simply said okay and went about the business of cleaning her desk.

Why are you firing, Billy?

Incompetence, or a downturn in business?

Yes.

To both.

With the downturn I realized that the outsourced work from Los Angeles would be fairly dry for awhile, so it's a good time to clean house and hire new staff. I can tell you this, I didn't fire these people without having warned them first. I also found out that there aren't worker's rights quite like there are in the states. I went to H.R. to ask how to go about it and they're like, "hand them a letter and make them leave." Sheesh. But I didn't feel too bad -- I'd warned the one guy a few times to stop looking at porn at work. He basically laughed me off. Now he's looking for a gig in this job climate. Eff him.

Dear Billyshake,

Well, it turned out to be a bit of a bust -- Nayan and I couldn't find anyone.

##I was under the impression that the Members would have gathered atleast by 8.00 p.m. and they will continue atleast upto 11.00 p.m.

##I reached the Venue at 10.15 hrs. but could NOT find anyone particularly Billy Shake (or) Nayan (or) life is journey, whom I have met earlier. Then I pushed-off to my home.

##Yes, it is imperative that, atleast in future, the Contact Numbers should be exchanged through PMs whenever a Meet-up is planned so that this kind of fiasco would never occur.

Well, fiasco might be a strong word...let's just call the evening an anti-hootenanny.

It is because they are trying to copy the London Meet-Ups and are looking for a poor imitation of Steven Ber's sacrificial goat.
