Otherwise if you can get to delhi (via metro), head over to an https://www.facebook.com/Eatlo Eatlo Eatup - they always have something on a sunday, it'll be a great way to meet the locals, see the city and make friends, many of whom would surely be well travelled. shashank (the guy behind it) is regular on IM too.

EDIT: in India, EVERYONE knows english esp in the metro cities/tourist hubs. It will range from simply terrible to perfect American english, but you honestly don't need to know any vernacular language to get around in this country in most places. I have recently had the pleasure of a simple carpenter give me almost perfect english directions, so I have realized we Indians are quite decent at it
EDIT2: Just realized you're a woman, so of course, you would need to plan your travel a bit better than the average male, keep your wits about you and study stuff like How much safe is Delhi for a new comer girl?

Wait for the band-masters to get ready. If you have a place in mind, you can list it here. It has to satisfy a simple rule (as far as I am concern) either it is a BYOB or it serves alcohol. Read the previous Feb meetups to get a sense of where we have met in the past.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, a meet is suggested on 9th Feb. The govt. is, however, surreptitiously spreading the word that this is something to despair over in recognition of which, the idea of flying the national flag at half mast is being mooted

Suggestions for the meet up venue are invited. In case the numbers are small, the doors of my house shall be open...with my three dogs welcoming you in with gnashing teeth.

I shall be in Delhi on the 9th of February. If you manage to fix something I shall make a sincere effort to attend.
