Hi people,

this is my 1st visit & post in IM - I must say its really informative n friendly. IM meetups seems such a great way to find friends not part of our daily sphere. Im in Goa 22-26 Jan around Palolem/Mandrem/Morjim, though I understand from earlier posts these look like the quieter spots , so suggestions on good shacks around Calengute/Anjuna with phone nos. are welcome.

Also, if any meets taking place, count us in

In Calangute/Baga area there are so many places to stay that are very pleasant on the pocket, just turn up and wander along the beach, you will find one.
Sorry cant give phone numbers as my diary has gone missing
If you are in Calangute try the Rabbi Burns Scottish Bar on Charlston Road, had so many fab nights in there! Excellent hosts and very funny, hope you have a good time wherever you go to?
Thank you

Ian.

Sorry we are still in UK, our friends are in Goa at the present and tell us it is very quiet, with very few tourists about.
A lot of accomodation is available and the owners are haggling to very low rates, you will get some good places to stay at excellent rates upon your arrival.
Chalston Road is just off Baga Road in Calangute and I can say that there are many places to stay down there that will give you great rates, one to mention is Hotel M R, sorry dont have a number for them. There are rooms to rent in family run Guest Houses, it all depends on your budget, but you will find something in this area, guaranteed.

For Palolem, we contacted Tony's Cottages (9422060497, 0832-2643436)and visited the website also. Rates on phone are Rs 500. Any feedback from people who have stayed there would be welcome. Thnx !

Ian - Thanks for your suggestions. Last I visited Baga, I seem to remember a small cute place nestled in an alcove just off the beach called (if I remember correct) Jenny's Love Shack. Any one know some numbers/ email etc to this place?

Checked with our friends last night and they have moved onto Kerala (just yesterday) but there are so many empty rooms in the area I have already mentioned that they cannot believe people will be able to trade for much longer?
In the Chalston Road area the accomodation ranges from Hotels to small Guest Houses for a few hundred rupees per night, there are some self contained flats and rooms available too (and not very expensive).
If I can be of anymore help please feel free to ask,I can give directions but I am not very good with names of places, sorry.
But if anyone is in the area pop in and see Davy and Gill at the Rabbi Burns Scottish Bar, a great place to have fun and a chat, let me know if you are going to go there please?

Need suggestions on this from everyone : Instead of hiring a cab to Palolem from airport (approx Rs 900-1100) and then hire a bike/scooter once I reach Palolem, why dont I simply hire a bike/scooter from airport area on daily basis and give back once I leave Goa. This will save on my transit expense.

Q: Are there any bike/scooter hire shops around airport area and what is the per-day charge? Last I was in Goa in 2006, it was approx Rs 200/day. Pls advise...

I have asked a few friends if they know of the Shack you mentioned, if I get an answer I will let you know?
You are travelling lite then if you can travel by Scooter?
I have not noticed a hire shop nearby, sorry. Long term Scooter rentals were as low as Rs100/- per day in November whilst we were in Goa?
