You take New Beach Road from East Coast Road and, I think, turn right when you get to the sea. There is a car park next to the restaurant, which is set back a few hundred yards at the end of a lane.

Any visitors who want to see the sea and the beach (it's nicer than Marina Beach! It will be very busy, but not quite as busy) will have to get there before 6.30 as it will be dark by then.

meetup

Hiya. My husband and I plan on attending. Just checking, but this is a place we can take an auto to (or to which we can take an auto as my 7th grade English teacher would say)? I guess that extends to the question: is there any place in Chennai not reachable by auto? I know it will be a relatively expensive ride for us coming from Kilpauk, but that's ok.

Thanks! See everyone Sunday.

Indeed you can take an auto. It might be a little hard for a non-local driver to find, but same would apply to a taxi driver. It is not the sort of place you will find a passing auto at the end of the evening, so you had better engage your driver for the evening. It is perfectly accessible; no alleyways or tiny lanes involved!

When it comes to taking a driver for a number of hours, a travels car or call taxi costs very little more than what an auto driver will charge you, and you have the advantage that the rate (n hours including i km) is fixed according to their price list.

As far as I am concerned, unless it is a driver you know well already, auto drivers have priced themselves out of the book-for-the-evening market.

Many places in Chennai can be more easily and quickly reached by auto than car --- but for distances, it all depends on your endurance!

If I remember rightly, the directions to give the driver are to take the next left after "Thiruvanmiyur RTO". The Road Traffic Office is a landmark most commercial drivers will know!

Thanks for the suggestion, Nick. We've hired a travels car for the afternoon today (Sat) to take an out-of-town friend around, and we may book him again for tomorrow evening. Or we may well decide to investigate the trains and take one to Mylapore...

Ah, the rains. If it's teeming we'll stay at home.

You can set in your profile if your want to receive e-mails to subscribed threads. Also I think you can set for individual threads in 'subscribed threads'.
