Thanks for the info on TASMAC joints. So in other words these are places for cheap drinking of lousy booze. Yeah I think I can happily avoid that.

3. Here we are, Indiamikers on IndiaMike.com. We have a website. It even has a PM system, but the meetup thread is available to all at all times. We don't need anything else.
It will be good if we have an event calendar and mark all indiamike events on that and everyone who likes to attend can add their name to attendees, right now it is confusing to everyone whether the meet up is going to happen.

People can just subscribe to a thread or even set it to send them an e-mail notification to keep an eye on any updates. It's under "Thread Tools" at the top of any thread (the notification option comes up during the subscription process. Either can be automated under your User Profile, I don't recommend that mail option [don't we all receive enough?], but to each their own.)

A calendar as such could be an idea though, I've been thinking to send Nadreg a concept (just by way of suggestion, of course). I'm thinking cultural events and Indian holidays and so on too (or mainly, rather). Thing is it could become quite the hassle for the moderators to weed out every other commercial minor Goan trance DJ I guess (with the resulting possible arguments over what comprises culture or not, or what is commercial or not), it may just not be worth it or practically manageable.

ps Reading back further only now,

Thanks for the compliment, Mirjam. It's just fun to do, and it's very much a collective thing. Couple of ideas thrown around, ending up with three out of fifteen plans without too much ado & mostly having a good chat... Just fun

Everyone posts lots of things in the meet up thread so everyone gets e-mail all the time, so the message gets lost. If we can come up with an event calendar that will be great, everyone can easily communicate their participation easily and clearly.

There is a plugin for vBulletin http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...Event+Calendar

I have a feeling we may have had a calendar function on the site once --- probably died of under-use.

The way we do it works for us and for IM meetups all over the world. It works. Its "appropriate technology", and even if there is better, it'll do.

And I second that! How can one forsee events that call for a meet up?

Okay now I have something interesting to share with IM'ers; I got a circular a day back from Madras Boat Club announcing the Madras Colombo Regatta on coming Saturday July the 19th. 3pm.

The Madras Colombo Regatta is over 100years old having begun in the year 1898 when a crew of the Madras Boat Clubsailed across the Palk Strait to Colombo to participate in a "fours" race. From then on it became a yearly feature where a team would go across either side to participate alternatively. This year it is Chennai aka Madras's opportunity to host the event and any interested public(there are not too many) can come and watch the races from the banks. They have shamiana and chairs laid out for the viewers. Also some snacks will be served it is learnt.

This should be suitable for most people as this event is in character with this city. The event goes on till 6pm after which there is a Regatta Night to celebrate and facilitate the rowers at 8pm.

So if people are interested just pm me for my contact number and other particulars. I am giving the Club's phone numbers for any general confirmation:- They are 044 24326728 and 24354751.

I hope people make use of this opportunity and make it!

So nobody probably wants to wait another two weeks, but I get in at the end of July and admit to having a penchant for Japanese food...

Are you watching, or rowing, GTT?

ISN... sure we can put the calendar thing on Nadreg's features-to-consider list, but I still think threads work fine for us.

Last I rowed was about 5-6 years back! This event has only club colours rowing . It is going to be competitive. I hope people can come and support the Madras Club Rowers and have some good time outdoors too. AC Hall is also there for people to chill out too!
