Kurta is the long indian shirt which is kind-of-like a dress with buttons at the neck only. I'm sure you know it if not the word!
Vesti is the local word for Dhoti, as you probably guessed, but I tend to think of Dhoti as the longer, North Indian garment which is tied in a much more complex between-the-legs way (locals to comment please?). Vesti is usually white or crea with coloured borders and stripes at the ends, although you will also see black, safron, and other colours of religious significance that I can't begin to explain. Lunghi is the casual, around the house garment. It is not going-out wear. I still think 8.00 is a little late...

Typo's abound
Sorry Nick, I meant to type "7pm would be good for me".
One ofthese days my typo's will cause an international incident! So I'll see you 7pm in the coffe shop at Landmark, Spencer's Plaza, this Friday (28th). Any problems arise and I'll post here. Anyone else coming (I may have up to 6 international buddies with me, depending how they feel)? Cheers, Scott

Looks like I'm going to miss this meet up. May be passing through Chennai early February but will be back as my flight home departs Chennai March 13th. Will try to make contact then to see if anyone is around.

Finally here...
Well finally made it, currently in an Internet place across from New Woodlands (can't see the Dishnet place, any hints?)
Will still come on Friday, but I have a 6pm consultation at KYM so I may not be there on the button. If I am going to be lateI may send my friend Colin in advance. I was at Landmark yesterday, very impressed withthe books soI think mypack will be heavy on the way back. Pooch - If the place we are meeting is the same as the one I saw, it is the cafe INSIDE Landmark, am not sure if it's first or second floor but it is definitely not ground floor. It is the same floor as books and CD's. Hope your flu passes quickly Nick, there's a bad lot of it flying about the UK right now, Colin is still very tired as he recovers from its ravages. Cheers, Scott |

Well it looks like you found us all right!
Indiamike Chennai meetup went to plan and was well attended by Pooch (Paul), Vinayverma (Vinay), Nick-H (Nick), Solostyle (Archana) and me, along with two of my friends, Colin and Les. The venue was a bit noisy from the radio, but someone suggested a cafe called Java just a floor below for the next meetup. Was great to meet you guys, very interesting and some good questions answered for us Chennai newbies. Am looking forward to seeing the meetup photo online Vinay! Anyone fancy meeting up in a couple of weeks? Probably weekends are best as we will be kind of swamped during the week? Perhaps, after our discussions on classical music and dance, we could go to a performance together? Cheers, Scott |

Nice to meet you all, even if I couldn't hear much of what was said (must meet somewhere quieter next time!).
I'm always game for meeting up or joining someone for a concert etc etc, having, most days, not a great deal to do ( )Solostyle and I stayed for a bite to eat and then shared one of the fasted autos I've ever experienced back South. Solostyle assures me she's been driven much faster in an auto! ...Taj Connemara, eh? Now there's Posh ![]() |

Nick
Did you experience the cheese and mint sandwich after all, or did the egg mayo still tempt you? Yes, a concert for sure. Will get back with a date as soon as we have our full schedule and discuss it with my fellow students. I am not planning to do much, if any, travelling at weekends other than around Chennai, so if anything you think is really interesting comes up then please do let me know. Cheers, Scott |
