well.... i am off to mumbai on 13th and wont be back till 19th. how about 12th evening around 4:30 p.m or even later if people want, or whenever on 12th is fine for me.

Hi! Just found this thread thanks to Nick. I'm in Coimbatore right now, returning to Chennai tomorrow morning (the 12th!). Do you think the 12th is too short notice for everyone here? Should we have a poll on what day is best? Maybe after the 19th would be better because it will give people more time to respond.

Spencer Plaza's Landmark is good with me! Does everyone know where that is?

any day is fine as long as it is in the evening...so ppl decide if it is the 12th or the 19 th..

I'm coming to Chennai from January 26th to February 26th (or thereabouts), an Indiamike meetup would be cool. Prefer weekends as I'm studying yoga at hte Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (http://kym.org) during the week.

19th would suit me, or later. Landmark would also suit. My not be logging in that often, but solosttyle has my phone number and hopefully would sms me if any arrangement gets made. We might be having separate musicians get-together anyway.

I'm having a sort-of three-day Meet Up with Mr and Mrs Packerman of IM who are staying in the room next to me. I think we might go to a dance performance tonight as Mrs P wants to see one.

Can I suggest a meetup at 8pm on Friday 28th Janury at the coffee shop in Landmark in Spencer's Plaza?

Feel strange suggesting this since I'm not even in Chennai yet, but there seems to be a bit of indecision going on. I don't have any plans for that weekend at the moment so that suits me. Anyone else interested? How will we recognise each other (red roses and a copy of the Financial Times)?

28 Jan is fine for me I should think. I don't know what Landmarks's opening hours are (first person to fond out please post?) but I would suggest that 8.00pm is a little late as the Chennai 'evening' seems to finish around 9.30.

How about 6.30 or 7.00?

I found Landmark's coffee shop for the first time the other day: probably means I'll never find it again

I don't have any rose bushes, and The Hindu is easier to get than the FT. ...But an Englishman wearing Kurta and Vesti isn't too hard to spot

Solostyle, Orange Flamenco and I will be at the mridangam arrangetram this evening, 6.00pm, Bharathya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore (near Kapaliswara temple.).

Solostyle's teacher is singing, and the young mridangist ('arrangetram' is a kind of debut performance for a music student here) is a student of O-F's mridangam teacher. Kanjira will be played by one of my guruji's gurus.

An arrangetram tends to be as much a social and family event as a musical one, and there are often too many speaches etc, but it is free and all are welcome.

8pm would be good for me, opening hours permitting. I assume that Spencer's Plaza will be well enough known to Auto drivers?

Kurta and vesti? I can guess what a vesti is but what is a kurta? I was thinking of wearing a dhoti for my trip, after all in most places local clothing has developed for a good reason. A friend told me though that only the white skirt is called a dhoti, and that if it is a different colour it is a lunghi. I thought a lunghi was totally different - is this a Chennai thing?

Thanks for the info on the arrangetram Nick - I would quite like to attend something of that ilk when I am out, so keep us posted if there's anything else approaching.
