Here's the Amsterdam IM meetup report - 29 Jan 08.

The weather was a bit rainy, chilly so sitting outside wasnt exactly a great idea, everyone gathered inside. I walked in the bar and saw a guy wearing the IndiaMike T-shirt. I knew I had found the right group.

After all the people had arrived, the IM team moved to a table.
There were lots of discussions about India, Larkilli's fears of solo travels, a round of you-show-me-yours-I-show-you-mine ... err tattoos

, differences in India travel then and now plus several short digressions. Just before the bar closes I could notice that we were surely the loudest table in the whole place!

We'll wait to hear from Larkilli if we allayed any of her fears or brought on a few more.

The only conclusion of all the debate was... there should be more such meetups.

Here's the IM crowd crashing the whole windmill-brewery.

Yes, it's another little A'dam IndiaMike meet-up!

When:
Friday, Feb. 29th, 2008 (Yes, that's tomorrow for anyone in the appropriate time zone.)

Where:
Coco's Outback, http://www.cocosoutback.com/ , for "Lousy Food & Warm Beer"

Thorbeckeplein 8-12, Amsterdam
(That's right by Rembrandtplein in the city center, for directions: http://www.cocosoutback.com/howto.htm )

Purpose:
To have a ball.

How to:
We'll be there from 18:00 onwards. We'll notify the staff when we get there we have an IM meet-up, so just enquire with them. If they don't know what you're on about, you are the first one. So notify them yourself, and ask them to direct any newcomers to you.

We may be moving on later, so try to not make it much later. We'll leave notice with the staff anyway if we do leave.

Other than that, look for the backside of the two guys to the left in the pic in post #92 above

Be there or be not so very there.

Taking KLM from Washington DC to Amsterdam and spending two nights in Amsterdam on route to Delhi. Would love to meet up with any IMers when i'm back in Holland!

No problem, we can have coffee at Schiphol airport (time serving and stuff). (I see, two nights eh. Crash the town rather methinks.)

Just drop your dates & times here, and we'll see what we can do. Schiphol will never be the same that's for sure!

I'm going to try my best to get there. I am busy until 7pm and have to drive in and find parking which will take about an hour at the least.

Hm? No, not at all, silly (if you'll pardon the expression, I don't think we've interacted much yet. Then again we might as well be next-door neighbors, who knows.) We'll be sure to stick around till 19:30 at least then, or again, we'll leave notice with the staff as to our next whereabouts if we do leave. Knowing ourselves you may still find us there at 03:00 anyway, but don't expect too many nuanced views of India or anything by that time.

Their site lists a phone nr., so keep that on you. Damn, better get rushing myself.

Be there, since the option not to be has run out... now!!! IJ just informed me he'll make it at around six, so just look for the thin cute Indian young'ish bloke.

Whew, guys, only just back among the living. Great little meet-up

Too bad Chickpea apparently didn't manage to make it. Next time!

Indojingai, Zoeperman and I enjoyed (much, if I may say so myself) ourselves with plenty of good talk on all and sundry at Coco's, grabbed some ready-to go Wok place kind of fastfood, moved on to Vrankrijk (which has just undergone a complete renovation and looked pretty flashy really, nice job), after which we escorted Zoeper to his exit point out of town & Indo and I spent some time in yet another pub, to end up in some crazy little transvestite pub near Rembrandtplein. I don't know the name, it's to your right hand at the beginning of Utrechtsestraat coming from the square.

What we walked into was the end of some CD presentation & the according all-night after-party. Indo wisely set off at a decent time to be able to face some more sensible daily business, while yours truly found himself dancing the night away till the very wee hours with the resident crowd of transvestites, transsexuals in various stages of progress, gays of either gender and the odd local hooker and even perfectly straight hetero (one supposes...) thrown in for good measure.

So, er, as they say I guess: A good time was had by all. I think. Or certainly by yours truly anyway

(If that all sounds very wild to any potential future meeters-up'ers: We can actually carry a decent conversation I believe

But I was very happy anyway to find an unexpected and uncomplicated and low-key fun time can still be had in this crazy little city of ours.)
