Wanted: Hindi interpreter

namaste,

I will be traveling to some rural villages in (mostly Eastern) U.P. over the next ten days looking to do some historical/historiographical research. I have very limited Hindi, so I'm interested in engaging the services of an interpreter. Can anyone here recommend themselves or anyone they know that might be interested? Has anyone on India Mike ever done anything similar? The nearest towns of any size to the villages I'll be visiting are Varanasi and Faizabad/Ayodhya.

bahut shukriya!

Richard

Oh Man! I wish I could take a few days off from work and travel with you. But well, corporate indulgence. Ahem.

Must mention though that you might be better off seeking services from a professional company/agency who may be supplying candidates who are trustworthy and have had their references checked. Not a bad idea to register identity, address and an ID card at the nearest police station either.

Travelling with someone relatively unknown, in remote villages and not knowing the language can turn out to be a nightmare if things go wrong. Not trying to scare you off, just an advice.
