Travelmates needed for Arunachal and Nagaland.
Looking for people to apply for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland permits. Planning to get to Nagaland in April, in time for Mon tribe Aoleang festival (01-06/04/09), then move on to AP around 10th of April. It'll be up to us whether to actually stick together for the trip, but the permits require 4 people anyway. Looking forward for your reply.

For Arunachal Pradesh you no longer need to be in a group of 4 people. The regulations have changed to encourage tourism in the North East. Have a look at this link:

we were in AP in 2006 (old travel conditions) - and, we were 2 people and the duration of stay was 40 days. after 10 days our guide recieved a new fax with the new permit for us.
the question is: is it possible to travel without a guide or still we need a tour operator for AP? and do we need APA and inner line permit? simone |

No tours or guides are needed. @ people is the minimum reqirement for Ap. For Nagaland it may still be 4, i'm not sute.
ILP is for Indians, foreigners are issued RAP (restricted area permit). This is exactly the one i'm talking about. |

My understanding is that Proxodimec is correct. Once you are issued with the RAP (for foreigners) or the ILP (for Indian nationals) you can stay as long as the piece of paper says. And you don't compulsorily have to go with a guide.
Omamone, welcome to India Mike! Would you care to tell us more about your trip in Arunachal Pradesh? Which were your favourite places?

If you don't mind my asking, ihavetravellust, where do you plan to get your permit from? It is quite expensive that price you just quoted. There seems to be no consensus on the amount - every person I've asked comes up with a different quote! (Ranging from 50 US $ through to 130 US $ and all permutations in between.) AND, it is suppposedly free if you request it at the same time as you request your Indian visa!

theyyamdancer,
check the arunchal pradesh tourism website. http://www.arunachaltourism.com/entry.htm Foreign Tourists intending to visit Arunachal Pradesh require a Restricted Area Permit. The foreign tourists can obtain the Protected Area Permit from: All India Missions abroad, All Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs) at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata Chief Immigration Officers, Chennai Home Ministry, Govt. of India Home Commissioner, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar The permit can be obtained for a period of 30 (thirty) days for a group consisting of two or more persons. The application giving the details like Name, passport number, its issuing authority and the expiry date, place of birth, profession, proposed duration of stay and the purpose of visit should be made to the following address: Home Commissioner Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh Itanagar Phone: +91 - 360-2212339 or Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India, New Delhi-110001 Foreign Tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh will have to pay US$ 50 per head to Government of Arunachal Pradesh and application for RAP should be applied through Local approved tour operator. ---------- I have visited Nagaland before, I get the permit from FFRO in calcutta. I had to pay some fee for the form, nominal, can't remember, probably about 30rp or something. thats it. I needed total of 4 people to travel along with me. They do check at the borders, and were quite strict about the permits. |

And you can forget about getting the permit from the 'friendly indian overseas mission' , they were asking me why do i want to go to Nagaland or Arunchal Pradesh, they don't seem to know anything about it.

Thanks for the above posts. We have already obtained (by a travel agent) our permit (minimal fee, included in the cost of the tour). We are travelling to AP in a group of 2 for three and a half weeks. I was being flippant about getting the permit from abroad. I totally agree with you on that. I didn't want to risk being refused. Although it has been known to work (see Mike-in-Cairns wonderful travellogue for AP last autumn - he travelled on his own after obtaining his permit from Australia at the same time as his Indian visa).
