Travel to Ladakh and Zanskar
I am planning a 15 day trip ex Delhi to Zanskar as follows:-
The route is finalised but the dates are still open as we need to work out on the dates so that they suit everybody who wants to join in with us. We already have 2 confirmations but have space for 3 more. The route is:- Delhi-Manali (1), Manali-Upshi (2), Upshi-Tangtse-pangongtso (3), pangongtso-Hemis-thiksey-Leh (4), Leh(5), Leh-Kargil (6), Kargil-Padum (7) Padum (8), Padum-Kargil (9), Kargil-Mushkoh-Sonmarg (10), Sonmarg-Srinagar (11), Srinagar-Jammu (12), Jammu-Delhi (13). The day is in brackets. We are keeping 15 days out for the above. In case any one of you guys wanna join in PM me for the costs and other info. The vehicle is a Scorpio. We prefer if you can take all the 3 places as a team as then it makes finalising the dates easier, but even individuals are welcome but then the dates will be as per mutual convenience. Foreigners are welcome too, we would arrange for the passes etc as per actuals on the spot. Please feel free to pm me if you are interested in the above. Cheers. I have been into those regions thrice already and am versed with the general layout and topography and the routes. I am telling this for the benefit of first timers that they would be with capable hands. |

Sorry guys for the late response but I was away. Highway & Cyber the dates are flexible and can be accomodated to suit everyone. The cost is yet to be finalised but will be approximately around 50K per head all inclusive.

That is interesting. Can you post more details. I have long been planning a car trip to Leh. If its this expensive - I'd do it on bike again

Hi Wanderernomad. 50k for 15 days per person in an suv. Thats 250k for 5 people for 15days travelling ex Delhi which is approx 16k per person per day. Is it really that expensive?
Reason I ask is because I intend to drive to Leh from Bombay, with an almost similar but unfinalised itinery. I intend to spend approx 15 days in the mountains. You also seem to have information about passes. Can you share information as to how and where these passes can be obtained from? And is it paramount to do hotel bookings in advance? Please advise. No intention to hijack your thread. Thanks. |

@roadie do your math again buddy. 50K for 15 days comes to about 3300 per person per day and believe you me its on a lower side. Guys, the cost is approximate and covers contingencies. It might come out to be cheaper but seeing that these days everyone is going to Leh the chances of finding budget options are minimal and trust me you wont like to spend a night out in a tent if it starts to pack up. Plus the meals are costly and not easily found every where. We have a contributory option as well where you pay only perperson for the travelling and one meal plus boarding and lodging can be at actuals to be paid on t he spot by the individual.
The passes can be procured from the DC office in Leh and the staff is courteous to say the least. Not much of an issue. But in our trip since we are pressed for time we would be getting them made in advance. If you travel make sure you carry some regular spares with you in case of a breakdown. Spares are a major issue even in Leh and can be expensive as will be the labour for an out of state vehicle. Plus factor in the fuel costs. No matter what the average fuel efficiency is drastically lowered in rarified air and altitude. |

Hi,
I came across two interesting things: http://idiscoverindia.com/India-Trav...roup-trip.html Which means my car trip can't be that costly. I am personally thinking of anything only around end Sep. That too a ballistic trip. Thanks for your extremely generous offer but I'd much rather do it at my pace, my vehicle and enjoying the scenery my way (as you'd well relate to that!) - Ladakh is an intensely personal almost spiritual trip, as I had on bike in May 2007 |

Hitanshu i fully agree with you on this. thats why i also plan my trip in my own SUV and invite friends to join me who are not in a hurry and are quite Nomadic.I am not into cost sharing of fuel cost . |
