I am going to India in September -
want to do a bit of simple trekking ( about 1 week)- then go to Varanasi, then to kolkota and then to the sikkim area.
Budget style traveling.

Hi there sounds great.
I am re - planning my trip a bit, because I actually might want to (easy) trek in Dharamshala area- basically it is because I heard that it is fabulos and that there is very much interesting bhuddism culture there.

How does that sound to you??

I will most definitly have a paid guide with me... yes, for a lot of reasons- one of them is safety

IndiaMike has sounded a warning which TravellersCompanion has not answered. Nothing against guides asking for payment as paid companions. Should the fellow not answer Mike's question at least??

Also read the general warning about picking up travel companions or "Paid guides" calling themselves travelling companions. [mainly about using common sense etc.]

There is a caution notice on the Sandakphu trek about Nepal army shooting down trekkers. You can read it on your other thread.

I am actually going with a (legal) travel agency- hopefully they will not lead to the shooting area .- (I will not enter Nepal region).
If things get worse- I am sure they will inform me, and cancel my tour.
