some questions July 14th thru aug 1st
Hi, I'm david, 18years old, traveling india first time.
I don't mind not seeing a lot of buildings. I rather care about the food, people, scenery, and the trip itself. where could be the areas that I could just be there for few days and chill with the non-travelers?
I have no itinerary, just some vague ideas.
despite heavy rains, I hear some are going far south.
Is it safe/worthwhile traveling alone? Anyone thought about traveling alone but changed their minds because it could be too 'adventurous'?

Hi David, India is quite safe to travel alone, but you might yearn some company of other travellers, to share experiences with. If you only have a vague itinery meetups with other travellers can be beneficial in the fact they can give up to date news of where to visit. Which city will you be flying into and what have you thought you will do while here?
thanks for your reply. I'm looking for an 'adventure', not entirely physical challenges though. I want to be confused; thought India's a good fit for such a travel purpose.
I saw your profile and pics. so you are a permanent traveler staying in a native town in india? Is there places like you live where short-term travelers like me could moderately intervene the lives of indians and still keep the tourists' - behaviours? (toilet with tissues, bottle cap water)
is it better to have a specific itinerary? If I just travel the golden triangle, is it possible to at least imitate your travel style?

Don't worry, India will hit you in the face like a brick as you leave the airport terminal building, although for most it's not painful, just overwhelming. The confusion comes when you return home and try to get your feet back on the ground.
I am fortunate to have used taxis for the first 10 years and then my own car for the last 10 and have driven all over the south of India till I discovered this beautiful area and its people.
It took a month or so to develop my own method of driving(aggressive/defensive) with a very loud horn, not to mention many years being scared witless(unless drunk) by a myriad of drivers all with their own techniques. But travelling by car is the best way to go as it gives you an independence that public transport limits. Don’t travel on Indian highways of a night!
You should always consider overnight sleeper trains between destinations as they are usually quicker than road and kill two birds with one stone, by getting you where you are going and a night’s accomm at the same time/cost.
Have a look at the post below and in there is mentioned one such place with western conveniences and standards in the tribal district called Chandoori Sai in a pottery/tribal village.

Depending on your budget and now limited time before arriving I doubt you will get reservations for rail travel in the golden triangle, but taxi is the best way to tour as it gives you pretty well total control and you can use them as you need them.
For someone travelling alone a specific itinery may not be necessary but you do need some sort of idea what you want to see and do while keeping it flexible.
