snorkeling partner(s)

Hi,
I'll be on my way to Andaman around march 18 or 19, and I'm kind of a snorkeling addict. I'd be happy to meet some other snorkelers as it's always nice to share what we can see underwater and also it's safer not to be alone in the sea. I did'nt plan yet where I'll go first (after a stop in Port Blair), as I also like to follow the wind (unless it's a hurricane) and stay longer in one place or another once I've seen how it is.

Hi Sirena..just got back from Andamans two days back and it is a lovely place. You will love it a lot. It is great to have a snorkeling partner but right now there are so many travellers there that you will not feel unsafe.

I would recommend Havelock Island as it is an amazing place and got lot of nice places to go snorkeling.

If you are an experienced snorkeler then please check out the coral reef at South Button Island and Elephant beach.

I went with Dive India and Nafisa's teams and both teams were very helpful. However, if you want to do it on your own you can go snorkeling at beach No. 7 also on your own. I saw lot of travelers go snorkeling on their own.

Let me know if you need any details of places to stay etc.

any chance to see a dugong???

Hi Harsha,
thanks for the news, I didn't think there was so many people going to Andaman. But I think most of the people are going to Havelock, I'll go there too for sure but I also would like to go some other places like Neil, little Andaman (and why not, if time is not too short, around Diglipur), that's why I'm still hoping to find snorkeling partners in different places.
Is it easy to go to South Button island? I read that there's still a few dugong in Andaman (I dream to see this animal once in my life), if someone had the chance to see one of them please tell me where. Of course I'll be happy to get informations about the best places to stay in Andaman, I can't afford a place like Barefoot, is there a cheaper place on beach 7 ?. (well I think all those questions should be asked in another place).

Yes Beach No. 7 has government owned tented accomodation, which has to be booked from Port Blair.

Hi Sirena,

Havelock has lot of tourists and you will love it. You can go to Neil Island easily as the afternoon ferry from Port Blair stops at Neil Island on way to Havelock.

As Sharom has mentioned, there are couple of budget places on beach 7 so its not difficult. However, the market and everything is on the otherside of the island so I would recommend that you stay around beach 3 or 5 and then go to beach 7 for a day visit. There are government buses, autos which ply from the market and you can take them.

S. Button island is two hours away from Havelock and quite a few boats go there every day for snorkeling and scuba diving. Ask Island Vinnie (Dive India) and Nafisa (+919434280543)for trips.

Enjoy your time there.
