I was in Kovalam many years ago and met with a really nice lady from London.We ended up travelling to Cochin and had a great time.
At least you can make your mind up while you are there.

I arrive Kerala 30 Jan 2013 from Panaji, Goa, and leave 4 Feb for home south of San Francisco.

Me ... 71, fit, adventurous, curious, and know I will love the food, performing arts, hill stations, backwaters, etc.
